Taliban capture US helicopters

Quote:
Sources told The News US Assistant Secretary Richard Boucher was to visit Pakistan and Afghanistan soon in view of the situation in the region. What is shocking is the revelation that the US forces were transporting helicopters in unassembled form in containers, which landed at the Karachi Port and travelled all the way by road to Peshawar and then entered the tribal areas for onward journey to Afghanistan.

When these containers entered the Khyber Agency at Jamrud, the Taliban stopped the convoys and took away the helicopter parts. Pakistani paramilitary forces in the area tried to confront the Taliban but they suffered heavy losses due to darkness. This happened in the same area where Pakistan's Ambassador to Afghanistan Tariq Azizuddin was kidnapped in February this year.

Chinook and Black Hawk were captured recently while the Cobra was hijacked some weeks back. When the Taliban first captured the Cobra helicopter, they filmed all the stolen parts and supplied the CD to their allies in Afghanistan.

Some people in the Farah province of western Afghanistan showed interest in purchasing the Cobra helicopter and subsequently its parts were smuggled to Farah. Taliban sold this Cobra to an unidentified customer for several hundred thousand dollars.

Following the latest ground hijacking, the Taliban have again filmed all the stolen parts of CH-47 Chinook and Black Hawk choppers. Chinook is a versatile twin-engine helicopter that was also used to help the earthquake victims in Kashmir in October 2005 by the US Army.

The Taliban have again sent the CD to people for attracting customers from neighbouring countries of Afghanistan. They do not seem to have hit any customer as the stolen parts with extra engines are still in their custody.

Wonder how long until they steal a shipment containing nukes or something :/

Im sure Iran would be interested, and Im sure they would pay more than a few hundred thousand dollars for cobra and chinook parts. This begs the question, why were the parts not guarded by US forces ( although I can see that diplomatically this would be hard ) but why didnt they airlift the parts?
I would have thought they would have learnt a lesson after the cobra, if the CIA had any sense they would plan a sting, and send a few shipments with trackers to lead them straight to the enemy.
Maybe its part of an elaborate plan to link Iran to the taliban i.e. " The taliban are linked to Iran because thats where the parts eneded up, therefore Iran caused 9/11, therefore lets invade Iran!

We're taking some nasty blows lately, surely it would have been better just to airstrike the thing as soon as it fell in to enemy hands?

do you think this was planned as soon as the parts arrived in the port? Or the Taleban got incredibly lucky? seems abit too lucky to me.

I can't really see why Iran would be interested in the Cobra, they got tons of them already.
Also note that the helicopters are in parts and anyone buying them needs to know how to assemble them and needs someone who knows how to fly them to use them.

Taliban are probably just interested in the money for funding tbh

They dont have any AH-1Ws. Who was protecting the convoy? US soldiers or Pakistani?

Youre right Irans got tons of cobras and chinooks - but they havent recieved any parts for them for the last 30 years ( legal parts anyway )
Apparently theyve reversed engineered them and they actaully produce their own copies now, but the stolen cobra parts will have the latest technology which would be useful. I cant see who else would want the bits - theyre useless to the taliban or any other militia type group, and Pakistan/India can buy them off the US. China and Russia probably already have the blueprints for the parts hacked straight from the US, so they wouldnt risk getting involved.

I think that is the most ridiculous thing I have heard that has happened in the Afghan and Iraq wars! They should really be protected properly and destroyed as soon as the enemy has hands on them, which shouldn't happen anyway!

Surprise is merely a state in which you haven't prepared enough.
