Sigh, if you don't get it you don't get it. It's about people's attitudes, and those attitudes are as valid in these scenarios as in any others. Either post your own, or don't bother.

of course , i dont know you , but i dont have the guts to kill a man (inocent) face to face ,even if that save a few more lives .

thats why i wouldnt push the fat guy or kill the young man for the organs

Yes, throwing a switch is easier than pushing a man. My reason, though, is not which one is easier. It's the topic of this topic - Morality.

Throwing a switch to save 20 people but have a fatal end for the other 6 is way different than throwing that man in front of that train.

Not really, you are just adding one more so 7 die instead of 6.

Is that another way of saying I am afraid ?

Re: [Read the First Post in FULL before voting] Morality Questions

I could not kill the two men. I wouldnt be able to directly kill them. For the others i voted for throwing the rock/switch.

First question is simple. 12 people plus 20 die or 6 die? 6 die. They would anyway, nothing bad about that. OH, edit, just realized they dont die. Much easier choice anyway.

Second question is a lot harder. I would have to indirectly kill others. But since I am next to the switch and i dont have to do anything than using it, i'd probably kill less.

Third question is easier again. The rock safes 20 but kills the 6 that would die anyway, so nothing against throwing it.

Okay, then it comes to directly killing people. Though it would probably save more, it would mean that i'd have to go and kill someone, not just throw a switch right next to me. I'm not forced to chose in this case.

Now it also depends on the examples. The hospital one is easier in my opinion. Murdering for organs isnt right, so i wouldnt do it. Plus, this one leaves the option to commit suicide and let them use my organs. That would be easier, though still would mean too much in real life. People in hospitals die, i cant safe everyone and i'm not directly forced to do anything, unlike the switch situation.

Now, the fat one. Very difficult. I voted no simply because i couldnt do it in real life, just impossible. If i'd want to? Thats a 50:50, cant say it. Probably yes, but i couldnt do it.

Edit:
Quote:
"A train with your your parents* is going to crash in the water because a bridge is destroyed. Another train with 50 passengers is on the other rail and is going to be safe but you can press a switch to change the directions of both trains to make it that the doomed train survive and the populated train crash"
Parents are parents. In the other train are more parents, so i save those. Sure, mine are important, but not as important as 50 lifes.

Yet another edit:

Quote:
I think the questions are far two easy, most of us would kill the few to save the many. What would be a twist is to add a important person with the few.
Thats interesting, indeed. What if one of them was important - not to me, but for the world? Like some important guy who's about to discover a way to stop global warming or whatever (not the best example). That'd depend on the numbers then.

truth be told the chhces of you saving all 6 patients although possible is unlikely, i'd ask if he would willing donate a few organs and try to save 1 or 2 of the 6

i mean seriously you may be a skilled doctor but there are hundreds of factors which can affect the final outcome, not to mention even if you did the transplant the patients still only have about a 70% chance to survive + or - a few % what with free will and all

and if anyone were to find out, you would be removed from practicing and someone later on who could really use your skillfull hands would die under a less experienced doctor.

You constantly misinterpret what I'm getting at. If I have to explain it to you it loses the fun of figuring it out yourself. Here's a hint: it has nothing to do with being afraid.
