All snipers need to know is that their primary is NOT to hunt.

Hey Spriggan, as a side note...those are all old school sniper rules that haven't evolved much since their inception with Hathcock. The more urban, mobile battlefield is much different and a few guys have begun to do things extremely different. The don't sit in one spot for a day, they work with squads and they do exactly what a highly trained, long-distance shooter/stalker does best...hunt.

I'm just regurgitating what I've recently read in some sniper documentary from Iraq about Caughlin, I think he's our #1 USMC sniper. He had his squadies drive him around in a hummer with him on the back cargo net at times as a mobile shooting platform. This mobile sqaud based approach is also incredibly effective in PR...the sniper role ends up being similar to the DMR but far more lethal. More guerrilla sniper tactics to an extent...kill, kill and kill some more then run like hell (hopefully in vehicle) to your next area while the guys sitting around are trying to find you.

Plus new army US army sniper rifle to replace m24 is a semi auto. Just shows how the sniper role is changing in the modern war. Apparently the bolt action rifle can't keep a high enough rate of fire in the target rich environment of Iraq and Afganistan.

Cool vid. Harassing fire out to 1000 meters is pretty impressive, although I'm sure the limiting factor is the ability to control minute motions rather than the inherent accuracy of the weapon. Sweet rifle.
