Political Discussion thread for noobs.
O.K, to start off I'm a fifteen year old kid who lives in West London, if that bothers you feel free to go now. My parents always voted Liberal Democrat (that's the third party here in the UK that never gets much attention) and our constituancy is Lib Dem too (and it is epic).
I want to discuss certain issues I have been wondering about for absolutely ages and so here goes. 1. I have noticed that (on T.V at least) American high schools seem like a very class based society where being popular is everything, my shcool is NOTHING like that, everyone hangs out with each other and there seems to be no stress on the matter. Could someone who went to highschool in the US tell me if my perception is wrong, or if not why they think this difference is. 2. How many people still don't believe in Climate change? I have yet to find anyone I know but in other countries there may be more, talk of your experiences. 3. I personally think that all drugs should be legalised. My brother got into drugs and it has messed him up pretty bad, but that doesn't change my view. Drugs are basically the only thing left to fund organised crime, kids wouldn't take drugs to be rebellious if they were legal and people wouldn't have to rob others to buy the things. Thankyou for answering in advance. oh, and: /Discuss |

1) Not from US, but still there are "cool" kids at every school you go to. But at mine we all mixed up and pissed around together so i guess it just depends on the people...
2) Climate change is happening but it would happen anyway with out us humans lending a helping hand. The world will sort itself out anyway... 3) Drugs srew too many people up already. Make them more available and I think more would use them as I don't think reverse psychology works in the situation... p.s. dont vote Lib Dems... |

1) I went to high school at an American School in The Netherlands. There are two dynamics that you may be referring to. First, 10% of guys get 90% of the action with girls, and this alpha-male dynamic can cause a lot of social jockying for position. Second, in my high school there weren't really "the popular kids" and "the not". There were some incredibly nerdy kids, some kids the were social n00bz, and everybody else. We'd all go to the same bars, and nobody was really "cooler" than anybody else.
2) Everybody with a thermometer believes in climate change. The issue is over whether humans are the cause. I've heard that volcanoes put out huge amounts more CO2 than humans. Are they to blame? 3) You and me both buddy, you and me both. Drugs f*cked my life over at one point pretty well. Actually, they helped me be OK with f*cking my own life over. They didn't do it at all. In fact, they may have been all that kept me sane. I've never turned down a drug for legal reasons. It's just because I don't want to do the drug. Can any of you say that you don't use heroin because it's illegal? Hell no. You don't use heroin because you don't want to be a junky. Legalization would do nothing to change this. |

You were an Ashy? Lol! Load of my friends went to the BSN
The drugs legalisation movement is a trendy one but one that will ultimately fail. No government will ever be able to justify legalising class A substances such as heroin or cocaine to voters. It'd be political suicide. |

Volcanoes can emmit large amounts of Co2 but they haven't because it would be instantly detectable if they had, they release a great deal of co2 but in a very small amount of time and very suddenly. What we are seeing is steady, very fast compared to natural change but much steadier than volcano Co2 emmision.
Good responses, glad to see people actually answer these things. |

1. i went to school in the UK and we only had 2 male groups i suppose, the "popular 1's" and the not so "popular" ones. and then all the dorks, but cant call them a group really cause they all hanged out on there own. but even then we all mixed, i hanged about with both and so did some others , we all hanged about with each other i guess.. there was some tension between the two groups with certain people.. i just hanged around with the "popular" 1's outside of school mainly because thats where all the good lookin ladies where. and the "lesser yet still cool" kids during school because they where the bigger group and we could get a good footy match going
2. we didn't really talk about it tbh , couldn't give a shit. but we all believed it was happening i guess. 3. i think some of the softer drugs like weed should be legalised, like Amsterdam, but not A class. |

Cocaine gets you less altered than weed or alcohol, why make an arbitrary distinction? Some people (such as myself) can handle it's use responsibly much better than with other drugs (like weed or alcohol). Why not let people make their own decisions?

1.In my school there is really only one group. We all get on well together.
There are people who aren't in the group, who are considered weirdos etc. I'm in the middle(I get on well with everyone). There is this one guy who things he's great, cool etc. but everyone thinks he is a complete b******. 2.People do belive in climate change, but don't really seem to take it seriously 3.My primary school teacher suggested this once. We thought he was crazy |
