Is this SOP?

Watch and see how the American soldiers have to drive through Iraqi streets to limit risks of attacks.
I understand that, but it does seem kind of against the whole "hearts and minds" thing. Are the soldiers actaully allowed to do this?

Yup, thats pretty much how it works over there. And not that two wrongs make a right, but the Iraqi Army is worse. You can always tell where they are by the crackle of AKs being fired in the air to clear traffic. It's really a difficult situation, with the need for force protection usually trumping "hearts and minds", so to speak.
In all reality though, the hearts and minds have long been lost. In my opinion, the only really effective option at this point would be to physical separate the warring parties. Its happening anyway, so better we do it with trucks than let them do it with bombs and bullets.

But hey, what do I know? I was just a grunt on the ground, not a leader living in the state of Denial.

edit: Hope he has a good brush guard on that humvee

Up your ISO!

First thing I thought of, is how busy the streets are. Are a lot of areas of Iraq like that? From listening and watching American news media, I was basically led to believe Iraq is a smoking wasteland.

Yeah, we're evil, no we can't drive.. la di <explicative omitted due to mod discrimination>ing da.

You slow down enough in an environment like that, or you get forced to go slower, you WILL get hit by an IED. Aggressive driving is what's needed. The driver was pretty much holding his horn down the entire time. I don't care who you are, but if an armed HMMWV is coming up behind you with his horn blaring... perhaps it's time to get out of the way?

The way those streets are congested, I'd be nervous about being nailed by an IED, or a drive-buy, or ambush. "but a drive-by would be stupid and suicidal!!!" No way!!! The enemy in this case doesn't give two damns about his own life so long as he dies doing what will get him his virgins.

They lack sirens or flashing lights, but I've seen cops bump inattentive drivers in traffic to get them out of the way in an emergency.

Reality is what we take to be true. What we take to be true is what we believe. What we believe is based upon our perceptions. What we perceive depends upon what we look for. What we look for depends on what we think. What we think depends on what we perceive. What we perceive determines what we believe. What we believe determines what we take to be true. What we take to be true is our reality.

Anyone wonder if it wasn't simply that guys usual driving habit in the US ?

But frankly he is pretty tame in his 'bumping' so I really don't think this could be taken out against them. Its not like if he was playing Carmageddon with them or like what was seen in an other video some time ago (a private company shooting at following cars).

edit: found it: here in non registration, or here in registration on Youtube. Thats the sort of thing that spreads like wildfire against any "hearts and minds" that can be done

No need to be hostile. I said I understood why they might feel it necassary to do this. But what I wanted to know was, is this standard operating procedure?

A dangerous place for a HMMWV to stop, so they might have saved their own lives.

If you are reading this dont stop, cause if you do, I'll kick you in the balls.
