I don’t see the connection, being in the Royal Family is not like being in politics at all and traditionally all the males have done military service. I can’t imagine the offspring of senators of any persuasion being particularly active in the armed forces, or their British or Australian counterparts for that matter.

I think it's great and I also think he had to try very hard to get deployed.
I doubt anyone wanted him to go but it is a positive symbol.
Bear in mind, I'm not a fan of royal families to start with and there is a noticeable lack of Congress persons children serving in the US military.
