Tehran, Iran, Apr. 04 – Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps successfully test-fired a shoulder-launched rocket during the fifth day of weeklong military manoeuvres in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman, a military spokesman announced on Tuesday.

“The advanced shoulder-launched rocket ‘Mithaq 1’ - which can be carried by IRGC fast ships and used on shore and on islands - was successfully test-fired”, the spokesman, Mohammad-Ibrahim Dehghani, told the state-run news agency Fars.

Iran’s military has given much prominence to the naval war-games, dubbed “the Great Prophet”, and has test-fired various new stealth missiles and torpedoes.

The Mithaq 1 anti-aircraft rockets have a heat tracking device and are “fast” and “manoeuvrable”, the report said, adding that they were particularly good at targeting light helicopters.

Dehghani said that the rockets had been designed and built by Iran’s Ministry of Defence and had been given in large stocks to the armed forces.

Iran also has the Mithaq 2 on its production line. The more advanced rocket is capable of destroying choppers and jet fighters which fly at low altitude. Tehran claims that it is good for use in electronic warfare and it can also hit fake targets.

Reality is what we take to be true. What we take to be true is what we believe. What we believe is based upon our perceptions. What we perceive depends upon what we look for. What we look for depends on what we think. What we think depends on what we perceive. What we perceive determines what we believe. What we believe determines what we take to be true. Well there's nothing to worry about because of anything happens with Iran, incredible might will fall upon them. Also, on shipmates (BBC series) I remember it saying the RN had naval war games every Thursday! - That shocked the hell out of me or I got it wrong

Whats to discuss? They more than likely copied an Sa-7 and or stinger, tweak some shit, slap a made in Iran sticker on it and your done.

Any sort of conflict with Iran, all the time and money they spend making their own weapons would be used up in less than a week. All their fancy gizmos would get crushed and used up.

The Apaches running combat support missions in Iraq have been getting shot down with new types of SAMs... and this seems to tie in just right..

You can actually see the launcher for a sec in one of the videos online of shooting down an Apache.

Edit 1: http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=ee046ff204

The lack of smoke trail early on was interesting...

Edit 2: After some googleing I found this: http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/europe...ion=cnn_latest

It suggests there was no smoke trail in a another shootdown (or the same one).

Edit 3: "I've seen a SAM being launched in the distance, the smoke trail looking like a giant Roman candle." - http://www.usnews.com/usnews/news/ar...1201/1iraq.htm

That's pretty much it. The smoke trail looks like a giant dong coming from the ground at night through the greenies.

Edit 4: Another says there was a smoke trail at a different incident: "AP Via Indy Star : Ashid Khalifa, 27, who has a food and drink stand in the area, said he saw the attack. "I saw the smoke trail left by the missile," he said. "I heard a hissing sound, looked around and saw the helicopter losing control before crashing down."" - http://mypetjawa.mu.nu/archives/152323.php

How do you know what kind of sam is actaully being fired? obviously shoulder fired, but you can't tell who made it and it does not matter as the tech is not new at all.

so it doesn't matter at all if Iran is caught red-handed supplying and supporting the OpFor in Iraq?

As far as I'm concerned they have already been caught, but thanks for trying to assume something I'm not even talking about.

This thread was about Iran developing new weapons, not what they are doing in Iraq, so if you are going to change the subject, do it.
Shoulder launched sams are nothing new and the one Iran has is no uber weapon. I would imagine you can buy all the flavors of shoulder launched sams if you so please, and don't forget when we first went over there, they had stock piles of them in the Iraqi arsenal so it's not new that choppers are getting shot down by them.

Iran is already sending weapons that are killing US forces, and have been probably since Baghdad fell. Last time I checked weapons get used to kill people in countries other than their origin and the argument that XYZ made the weapon that killed my soldier is to blame for that death isn't good enough to declare war on the manufacturing nation, that is unless you are just looking for an excuse to.

Never underestimate your enemy. Know matter how good your intelligence is or how good your weapons are, because look what happened to hitler in WWII, Americans in Vietnam and Iraq 2003. They were trained by us in the first place to bring stability to their country and now they are using it against us. So when we do go to war with Iran we are going to need alot of support.

Iran is allied to Syria, who are friendly with lebanon. It will be the 10th Crusade.
