What I don't get is how folks can't realise the approach taken in the video is antithetical to succeeding in the mission there.

And given that the Platoon Commander was suspended by the Army, I don't think it's limited to just the British civilian population deeming such behaviour as unprofessional and unbecoming of a soldier.

Cheers!

And it's exactly this kind of comment that proves my theory that the UN is pointless.

How can you expect countries like Iran to respect Human Rights laws when the west walks all over them?

Don't get me wrong - I hate hippies as much as the next person, but this is over stepping the mark.

And we can stomach the war - we've stomached 100's of wars and this is no different.

It's interesting, the last shot of the vid, looking through the rough hole in the wall at distant houses reminded me of images from Bosnia and the snipers there.
My next immediate thought was that at least here we are actively trying to fight the snipers and those who support them instead of standing by in blue helmets and watching it happen.

Overall not the most balanced piece of news I've ever seen but not truly revealing anything new.
Suspects get beaten often in developing nations and being caught with 3 mortar rounds kinda makes you more than a "suspect".
The US troops couldn't really do much to stop if short of making a huge scene and those guys were not that badly beaten.
Check out LiveLeak's video of some Mexican cops beating a guy to see what badly beaten truly is.
That's not to say it didn't get worse when they arrived at some detention facility but Western sensibilities are not the norm there and won't be for many years.

Wow, the article that surrounded that vid was so amazingly biased it made me feel ill. I cant stand pieces of writing that take an "objective" stand, accusing others of bias, while they themselves are doing just that.

so your opinion - human rights come in handy if you want to put some blame on others, but if they´re in your way, they suddenly to not apply to you

@video: well, it surely wasn´t good what those iraqis did and that the us troops didnt step was also quite bad - even though that guy had some mortar rounds with him, he should have gotten a trial and than be sent into a prison - but i think that is a bit naive in todays iraq

In case some of you haven't noticed, there is a war going on! This hardly registers on my care-o-meter, as a matter of fact, Im damn happy about it. If some of you guys are soo freaked out by that maybe you need to look at the last 6 minute compilation of IED video's where the insurgents gleefully point out the men whose bodies are flying 75 ft. into the air!!! That is hardly a beating at all! I'm sure some of you would say "But that doesn't justify what we did to them!" Yes it does. Violence is not solved by pacifism, it is solved only by greater violence so devastating as to remove your enemy from existance, it really is that simple. Besides, if you are so peace loving, why don't you find a problem with shooting them, huh?

Some of you have gone on another tangent, and said "well its ok for you, but not foreign countries to beat ppl up?"

Yes, to a point. When we do it, it is for our interests, when they do it, it is typically directed against groups supportive of us. "OMG u said u want to support what is good for your own interests!!! i bet you like capitalism toooo!"

Yea, so what. What is this great terrible sin I have commited, actually caring for my country first, above others!!! Oh god strike me down for I am a blasphemer of our internationalist fraternal workers duty!!!

Repeat after me:

Security, then Democracy.
Security, then Democracy.
Security, then Democracy.

Not the other way around, that is why this war is so FUBAR'ed.
