Maybe there are coalition forces within the group and thats why they use English but I hear plenty of Dutch so I guess they have drills in English.

Yea I know a German who can't speak Dutch but he can understand the conversations I have with another Dutch kid.
Dutch Commando's are called Korps commandotroepen, but because they only say Dutch commando`s I`m not really certain about that (could be other special forces). On the Dutch news when they got send on their mission they where called commando`s. since I live in the UK now I really don't know about any other Dutch opperation(s) , I think there are a couple of AH 64D and some F16`s providing air support but that's about all I know. |

Well we, the Dutch, have at the moment some 1700+troops in Uruzgan, appart from the Commandos. ( Mortars, 2 Pnzhb 2000 and APC s)They are under strikt orders, and are instructed to be cautious using force. This has to do with political support in the Netherlands. But the airforce provides air support for all coalition forces, and the army supports other coalition forces by taking over their bases so as they can fight in other regions, or just helping when they are in trouble. ( Dutch may not for now, go offensive outside Uruzgan, re-build mission no fighting mission ) They have been however in noumerous firefights, not only ambushes but also offensive in Uruzgan (commandos).
Armed with Diemaco c7, Minimi's, FN mg's etc. Commandos stam, like many Europ commandos, from the Brit commandos from WW II. 1942 they formed a troop (5?) with other Europ countries. In the movie there was a American opperator with them acting as some sort of a liason Officer, that little fellow ordering to put the wounded Afgani on the trucks. Dutch forces use however English expressions, because they are focused on working within the Nato, (US/UK). Don't know if the French are still in the Nato, but if you cant understand each other you its difficult to cooperate, so there for Dutch use a lot of English. Esp airforce. So far Dutch forces, appart from the Commandos (classified), have killed some 150 (so called) Taliban and have been involved in 9 firefights. |

I took the footage from a documentary on Dutch television and put the good parts together (EggyNL is me). Here is a second vid of the same documentary showing commandos marking a taliban hideout with .50 cal fire before an American F18 drops a bomb on it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LogdQAweBkA
The Dutch are in Uruzgan province which borders with Kandahar and Helmand. With about 1900 men because of the Dutch command in the south, will go down to about 1600-1700 in a few months. They have Apaches, F-16s and PzH 2000 155 mm howitsers at their disposal but the F-16s and Apaches have been busier in Helmand and Kandahar supporting British and Canadian troops. Uruzgan is relatively quiet compared to those two provinces but there are the weekly firefights here and there. The start of this year has seen alot of skirmishes in the Baluchi valley in which there is still alot of taliban hiding after last summers offensive. There is also an infantry company (Air Assault) in Kandahar which is currently involved with Op Falcon Summit and has been involved in Op Medusa. Here is a really nice picture of that company waiting for a Chinook to land: ![]() |
