Looks good. And as far as I've seen, even EA modeled the rings.

If this is one of your first jobs/models I'd say that you are comming along pretty good mate
You have shown that you listen to advice and that you are good at learning new stuff - and last but not least: you have dedication to even redo hours of work. I have a few more suggestions for you that will make the model a bit better (its actually getting pretty good now.) I have marked some vertex you should chamfer if you know how to. ![]() It will make the top a bit more smooth sort of like what you see on this image: Another small thing is that vertex in the bottom: you can delete that one and save a few triangles there (the edges arent really needed to support a flat plane. Also you can turn down the number of edges on the bottom part there which I have represented by one pink edge - you may have to have two to make it look good. ![]() While I'm at it, I have also marked two areas where it seems like you have a top, middle and bottom cylinder for the grenade. This is not optimal, and when the model have to go ingame it actually have to be only one object. I guess you didnt know that - and making a model out of just one object is pretty hard, my first models (even for PR) was made up of several objects, which didnt provide the best result. Doing it out of one piece is the art of this craft I believe, and it is actually a thing I have just begon to do on a regular basis. Back to the story: Ideally the green fragmentaiton lines would also be in one piece, and even more sweet would be if they were extruded from the yellow cylinder that made up the grenade. I think I could make a small tutorial video for you to give you an idea of how to solve this problem - and to begin making models out of one object and avoid the mistakes I have made in the past. |

Roger that!
1. Yes, I have already redone the "top thing", when I posted these pictures, I just didn't want to upload new pictures (It was late and I was lazy - Sorry 2. Yes, I will delete this vertex, thanks, just don't know how... The bottom is not a part of the torus (the one you want me to turn down the number of edges) - It's a new torus with the height set to 0...(I know noobish solution) When I try to delete this vertex it says, that "Some selected vertices have complex edge attachment; Delete Edge/Vertex removes selected vertices and related edges"... 3. Yes, I will turn down the number of edges here 4. O rly? It has to be one object? Daaamn that sounds hard but ok I'll have a try - But what do you mean with one object? Do you want the "body" (consisting of the three parts I currently have) to be one object or does that even include the handle, the pin and everything else? 5. Sorry, I just didn't / don't know how to use the extrude function 6. You are my god! And I will worship you for a kind of tutorial video (You have already helped me a looooooooooot!) The only kind of "tutorial" I had yet were the 6 Maya learning videos xD 7. Can I add you on xfire? Aaand may I join the "Project Reality Community Modders Xfire Clan"? Don't know if you want amateurs there -Over- |

There we go.
Grenade tutorial made. During 18minutes a very ugly and totally improvised grenade is made and the techniques explained. I am sure the same functions can be found in Maya, or else use it as inspiration DISCLAIMER: - The model is not meant to be pretty, it is meant to show techniques. - The model is not made from a reference (though inspired of a fragmentation grenade such as the DM51), it is 100% improvised and some stuff are re-done because of this. - It can be pretty fast and badly explained at some points - but watch the part again if confused. - My mic is really bad and my crappy english dosnt help it - The "final" model is not optimized at all, which is also underlined at the point where the fragmentation lines are created. However I'll still try to help with that part when I see some wireframes Its just rendering the video right now and I'll upload it right after that ![]() EDIT: Here is the link for the file: DOWNLOAD: http://tjens.be/forumupload/grenadetut.wmv I had to upload it on my own site since filefront ignored me tonight (but I'll throw it up there anoter day). Enjoy fellow modders. |

Ill have to watch it when I get back from school. Im intrested in how you make your models from single objects. Even my G36 has like 10-15 parts.
