The 3d map shows indicators of where your squadmates are. The minimap is now gone, but we have an improved version of the compass, which is nice for poitning out directions, enemies, etc.

I too have to get used to using the compass, but just hearing someone in my squad say "enemy sighted, 345 degrees", just makes me go "yeah!" .

No, a majority just means the devs didn't heed the poll for whatever reason.

I use the 3d map key and was using the old .6 compass in a similar fashion prior.

Re-Read the OP with whom I agree about his IRL VS what we gamers see on our monitors (running on various monitor resolutions, I'll add) statement. Tonight I paused for 20 seconds to communicate with other squad members and the 2 that were with me were gone up a ridge before I knew what. My vid/graphic is not the best so now I'm bringing up the map and calling out, that should not have to be done to find your close proximity squad mates. Not their fault, they just kept walking.
As I said - show me only my squad members near me to assist with awareness and I (ATM) think it will work better. I don't need the spotting or to see where other sqauds are in it.

Again you need to remember that the minimap is SEPARATE from spotting.

Having a minimap won't magically enable you to see all the enemies by itself. All it will do is let you see teammates that are in the area immediately around you, as well as targets that squad leaders and special operations manually spot for the entire team. And these are almost always very large, obvious targets such as vehicles which may also quickly move out of the area; so the mini map wouldn't give much of an advantage for these targets.

If the squad leader is spotting infantry, it is MUCH easier to simply (and quickly) place an attack marker for your squad to focus on. Again, the minimap doesn't help much when youre looking at the 3d marker (as this also shows elevation.)

You say that like it's a bad thing...

If every vote/idea on these forums was listened to, the US would have the m8 Gl w/ acog as their standard rifle cuz it was on "military gunz" on the military channel.

Don't worry I'm not... I'm just pointing out that people that are complaining about the minimap didn't suddenly come up from nowhere, and correcting his faulty logic.

No minimap.

Yesternight I have had my first opportunity to play .7, and it was really feeling good. The best rounds in ages.
I think the slower gameplay really added to the game, and I hope that it will not speed up too much when everyone gets accustomed to the changes.
Before, I did not really like being SL b/c - maybe due to my age - I always felt I had no capacity for my duty

Although I can see how some players might get annoyed by the lack of the minimap, I must say I really like that. I like the feeling of getting lost, having to yell "Stop mates, please cover me!" duck down in cover, fumble out the map and change directions and plans, while the squadmates are securing the surroundings.

Now you really have to extensively use the attack/move markers, so you can see your destination in 3d-map. And I like that!

Well, I always thought the minimap too small to be of much use.

I know I have slightly more troubles finding downed squadmates as a medic. Maybe make them better visible in 3d-map and vamp up the noises they make + give them more opportunities to shout for a medic?

The only thing I would really like is a bigger compass, you know, a old fashioned, round one, with a needle showing your orientation relative to north. I find it hard to get accustomed to the 'linear' one on the bottom of the screen. The round one is much more intuitive, to my mind.

Maybe it would be possible to show such a compass 1/2 second after pressing the map key, before the map appears?

Well, I know thats gimmicks - lots of work for little gain.

theres allot about bringing the minimap map back and the SL spawn back, why not make a poll to find out which one of those people would rather have brought back? Although Im not used to not having around anymore I voted no, its just somthing we'll all need to get used to

I wish they would've removed spotting and the minimap in two stages, so we could see the effects independently of each other.

I am not always 100% sure the squad leader spawn removal was right (Hey I just started playing 0.7 myself) but I am pretty certain the minimap removal was the right way to go. So I voted no.
