Smile Help messages in PR (you can help)

Ok, those help messages that pop-up in vBF2 when you first play the game can be triggered on the following events:

- Near friendly vehicle/object
- Near enemy vehicle/object
- Near neutral vehicle/object
- Enter vehicle/Switch Position
- Switch/Select weapon
- Pickup Kit
- Low on Ammunition
- Low on Armor

If you wanna suggest a help message for PR, use the following template and post in this thread.

Quote:

MESSAGE (text message to the player)
Examples:

You must request a crewman kit to use this vehicle

Actually, I'd kind of like to discourage people using the supply truck as a substitute for wrenching, because the supply truck takes a looooong time to repair (I'm pretty sure it's something like half the speed of the old crewman wrench).

Here's another one:

MESSAGE: Armored Personal Carriers are used to safely transport troops around the battlefield. APCs can be used to engage soft targets and lightly armored vehicles, but must not engage Main Battle Tanks, as the APCs cannon is not powerful enough to penetrate the armor of an MBT.

I don't know the word limit on these messages, but I figured you can decide how detailed you want these messages to be? The italicized part is extra, and can be left out.

I'd say leave the "You need a crewman kit" message for when a player goes near the Tank/APC. That way, you could give info on how to use the Tank/APC when the player gets in.

MESSAGE: The Main Battle Tank is a heavily armored unit comprising of a Commander (driver), gunner, and cupola gunner. The commander has no control over the turret, but can deploy a smoke-screen (Default LMB). The gunner has two rounds: SABOT and HEAT, and can have 3x or 6x zoom (Default "X" key).

I don't know what the zoom levels are for the tanks, and I'm pretty sure that's wrong, but I can't find what they are right now.

EVENT Spawn as/Pick up kit
OBJECT Engineer
MESSAGE Engineers are essential on maps with armor, because of their ability to repair vehicles. To repair a vehicle, equip wrench. They are also equipped with shovel, AT mine and a pack of explosives. On some maps they are also issued with a grappling hook. To select a grappling hook press weapon 9 (Default 9).

EVENT Select weapon
OBJECT Grappling hook
MESSAGE This is a grappling hook. It can be used for climbing up cliffs, buildings and walls. Use your fire key (Default LMB) to throw it. To control a power of the throw, use aim key (Default RMB). Short click of will allow you to lower it from an object you're standing on.

EVENT Select weapon
OBJECT Wrench
MESSAGE This is a repair wrench. Its main role is to repair vehicles, but it can be also used for building some commander assets (command post and AAA gun) and fixing bridges. To initiate repairs, come to damaged object and when circle appears press and hold your fire button (Default LMB)

EVENT Select weapon
OBJECT Weak (former crewman) wrench
MESSAGE This wrench can be used only for vehicle repairs. To initiate repairs, come to damaged vehicle and when circle appears press and hold your fire button (Default LMB).

EVENT In proximity to empty vehicle.
OBJECT Empty vehicle
MESSAGE To enter a vehicle press your enter vehicle key (Default E) You can enter vehicle only from a dedicated spot (ie. doors, hatch, etc.). Some vehicles (such as helicopters, APCs, tanks, etc.) require you to have special kit before you can use them. To avoid friendly fire incidents you are not allowed to use enemy vehicles.



Turn 360 degrees and walk away is what you should do tbh.

Just wondering: Is it possible to have these messages included for PR-specific objects and events? The only things I can really think of are things like:

EVENT: Close proximity to a unbuilt Bunker/Firebase/sandbags.
OBJECT: Bunker/Firebase
EVENT: Use your SHOVEL (default "2" key) to help build this asset placed by your commander. Stand close to it and hold the FIRE button (default LMB) to build it.


or even the specific seats in the vehicles like

EVENT: Enter vehicle gunner with crewman kit
OBJECT: Tank/APC/AAV
MESSAGE: Use the switch weapon key (default F) to switch between Sabot and HEAT rounds



So, would you be able to code a separate message for the vehicle driver position, and the vehicle gunner position?

I just figured that since these aren't BF2 objects, the code might not recognize them as such. e.g. the firebase doesn't fit any of these criteria:

- Near friendly vehicle/object
- Near enemy vehicle/object
- Near neutral vehicle/object
- Enter vehicle
- Switch/Select weapon
- Pickup Kit
- Low on Ammunition
- Low on Armor

Also, there's no event for switch vehicle seat.

Anyway, some clarification would really be appreciated, thanks!
