Change overall game lighting

I was looking at the project reality 0.5 promo video for the gazzilionth time and i looked at the lighting in the video. The lighting is maybe not realistic but, WOW, it looks way better than the current lighting in project reality. I think it improves the graphics quality ALOT. Basically make the ingame lighting a bit more like that, gloomy, gray.. almost black and white. it may not be down to earth realistic, but it'd look alot better, and figuratively, war is gray dark and gloomy.

What do you think.

I doubt that sort of effect can be achieved ingame.

I'm pretty sure that a load of filters have been applied to the video to achieve the gloomy lighting look.

Re: Change overall game lighting

well, what i think he means is that the saturation of colors is a bit much.

From a video game standpoint, it's really the effects (bumpmaps) that give a game it's realistic graphics, but i notice that a lot of game worry alot about the bumpmaps, but then they use overly saturated colors. Grass and red things are particularly susceptible to this.

I think what would be more appropriate is to try and take away that "fog" from albasrah, and change it with a particle overlay that gives it more of a "Dust blowing in the wind" feel. I've seen a few little dust clouds, but out in the middle of the fields (not the city) would probably be more windy. Another thing (getting more onto the topic of al basrah) would be to add some kind of mountain region near by... or maybe a village.. I don't know the limits of the BF2 engine, but theres that big plane on the outside of the map.... doesn't give you any feel of some kind of near by village... especailly that big bridge that leads to no where.... maybe a few trees or something?

Lastly, i don't know if refraction filters are possible, but the fog on albasrah, again, doesn't really help it. I've seen the refraction possible for damage, it was there in .6 before the black and white filter. I don't know if it would work for long distances, but i think a refraction filter (if possible) would give albasrah that kinda "It's hot.. and deserty... and far away.. is that water?" kinda look

=D Just some minor little things that i'm sure you've thought about

PS: I noticed something at Qwai river the other day. If you look through the mountains at the British main base, the Sun shines through the mountains. Is that normal?

Or we could get the guy who made the video to apply those filters to every texture in the game! hehehe
