Anti-hijacking measures

Given the age-old issue of a vehicle operating from a great defensive position, only to be hopped into by some moron and moved somewhere useless, there really needs to be some sort of change to prevent it. This is mainly referring to jeeps, but could be applied to tanks/APCs (though in my experience hijacking is rarer in these).

I have a couple of ideas for this;

1. If the gunner position is manned, with nobody else in the vehicle, make the driver seat unenterable to anyone else. The only way anyone else can enter the vehicle is if the gunner changes position, dies or leaves the vehicle.

2. Give the gunner the ability to 'lock' a vehicle. By right-clicking, the gunner locks the vehicle and prevents anyone else entering the driver seat (for APCs etc this would allow troops to shelter inside but not drive away). A second click unlocks.

I realise that these aren't entirely realistic, but then again IRL troops don't hop into an FSG vehicle while the gunner is opening up on targets and drive it into the middle of an enemy stronghold. Personally I prefer option 2.

I half-way agree:
#1: they did it in 1942, when a guy got in #2 for mobile arty, nobody could get in #1, so that the gunner could fire artillery without some jack(you know what) taking the vehicle for a joy ride and ruining the teams artillery support.

But #2.......ask if that is possible with the engine for a guy to "lock" the vehicle.

And if the wrong person was to hold the jeep then what? we start a map like basra where theres 4 jeeps, and 4 or the same british squad members decide "Hey lets all take a jeep each and nobody else can have them." then the rest of the squads who have planned to take a jeep or two for transport get pissed and teamkill them, and a melee insues.

We have admins for tardery. Al Bas without admins is one of the worst PR experiences imaginable, this would change nothing there. Moving a positioned jeep is an annoyance but not directly kickable offense, and prevention is better than cure.

I though of that for 1, but the vehicles this behaviour is most prevalent in are transports, so making people unable to enter at all except via one position would be an issue with getting lots of people in.

I was thinking for 2 of some way of 'filling' the driver seat while it's locked with a sort of dummy position, so that the game thinks someone is already in it. If it could be done at all it'd be great, but even better if it could be done without the engine idling.

Re: Anti-hijacking measures

Your not taking into account that having an admin present is a novelty and putting somthing like this would piss off admins ^_^

I like to play the game, not admin constantly, and there are measures placed in PR so that admining is limited to only rediculous instances of smacktardary! Like a bunch of teamkilling, soloing assets or general missbehavour. This thing your suggesting could quite possibly make every match a nightmare, unless refined signifigantly.

Its a good idea, but the cons outweigh the pros imo.

EDIT: To put it another way, having an entire squad whoring rovers is the equivilant of having a full squad of medics or a full squad of civilians.

No way. Sometimes you need to get in a vehicle where there is allready some other guy manning the gun.

Perhaps there would be a way of locking a vehicle (or it's F1/F2 spots) to a the squad occupying it by rightclicking in the drivers seat (DRIVER ONLY, NOT GUNNER) and rightclicking again to unlock it.

I think your idea could work if A squad leader or Commander had the ability to remove an occupant at their discression. There is no way a squad member should had higher tactical decision making abilities over an officer, its just wrong.

If the destroy asset command has this ability and the squad leaders had a varient, it would work wonderfully.

Re: Anti-hijacking measures

what i think is that each squad should be able to be limited to one to two vehicles (minus the insurgents in insurgency, cause it's always fun to have a Jihad squad =D)

Preferably make it so that.. lets say it's a tank squad. Well you can have 3 tanks per squad. Or a british LAV, you can have 3 maximum per squad.

If a squad member gets into the F1 spot in say, a 4th LAV, they'll get that "Your squad limit has been reached" or something. but if they just RIDE in the LAV no one will care. =D you know?

It will make it so that

1. The LAV's you already have are more useful (so that if you have 3, you want to keep at least one so you can return back and get that guy who has the HAT that you really need to hit a tank).
2. The squad MAY be more concerned with making sure they're entire squad is together, instead of leaving people behind (hopefully)
3. If the smacktard people can't deal with it, they'll leave hopefully =D

it would be a waste of time for the 1st part, but it will help with the HAT spamming anyways xD
