IEDs? what IEDs?
right now, a coalition vehicle driver in PR has to worry about 3 things:
-landmines -jihad bikes (the cars are too slow and are easily taken out by a prudent gunner -RPGs (pretty inaccurate/short range a warrior is probably more likely to fall in the river and blow than to be killed by a roadside bomb. if we were to interview any soldier in iraq, from any country they would not be worrying about LANDMINES in a crowded street, they would be worried about roadside bombs or maybe a VBIED. right now an IED unless it's strapped to the side of a dirtbike, is well, a joke. now, if an IED would have a kill radius of a two lane high-way or more, then we might see a little more precaution and maybe the insurgents could win WITHOUT charging the VCP. i'm not going to post any IED videos for obvious reasons, but just look on youtube, these are not little puffs of smoke, they are large, deadly, and a tool of psychological warfare. if you were sitting in the VCP with your little shovel building sandbags, you see a big tough warrior drive through, you get out of it's way, it storms down the main road, then you see a huge fireball followed by a tall plume of smoke from the now burning IFV. don't you thing you might hesitate before going back into a city full of these things? the IEDs right now are no more than a tool of demolition, you might get a kill if you manage to sneak behind a warrior and place one and run. but as of now, i can get a landrover and an engineer kit, kill the palace bridges and then the insurgents have no means to deliver an IED, no jihad bikes, not jihad cars. after that i can hop in a warrior and enjoy mowing down helpless insurgents with no heavy support whatsoever except for short-range RPGs and some C4 so i ask for one thing, make IEDs, scary, big, and deadly. |

to me its all about map design. in basra right now, there are way too many routes/ bridges to get to one place. for ieds to work, basra needs 1 bridge into the city. why? its pretty obvious that no one is going to sacrifice a whole game waiting for an apc to drive down a city road where he has placed ieds so map designers should try and focus on one road, bridge etc

The problem with making the radius too big is that they will get whored on infantry. A solution would be making a Super sapper with the huge IED as a pick up kit and limiting it to 6 max per a map. Also the side arm would only be a pistol.

I use IEDs by hinding them in a rock, and when a car or something goes over ill set it off. And if I have freinds with me they can set up also with RPG's and PKM's. But yes it needs like a Box or something that you can drop off the back of a truuck and sets off then something drves by it

Unless you could throw an IED, I doubt there would be much whoring. Especially considering you'd have to plant them and wait for your target. Also trying to jihad rush a group of soldiers will most likely get you killed first.
Though IMO it'd be good to have a delay-deploy on the IED so you'd have to take your time to set up the IED |

Excellent idea, I really like this.
Although it wouldn't be "whored" on infantry, it would most certainly be used against infantry - which is a normal occurrence. The only thing is that models for the IEDs need to be very distinctive but still blend with the terrain. So if you really looked for it, you would find it. If you weren't looking for it and simply grazed the terrain with your eyes quickly -- it wouldn't catch your eye just like a bush wouldn't. I also believe they shouldn't do that much damage to armor when they are blown somewhat far. The armor would get caught in the blast radius, but still be ok to keep moving. Infantry, however, would get clobbered very badly. I think we can all agree that this is a good idea... what we should do is try to brainstorm on how it could be exploited and potential fixes for the exploitation. |
