Hmmm...
It now looks like ~60 for zoomed and 75-80 for unzoomed. I really need someone to take a screen shot of this to help.

This would now make it:
Zoomed: total of 26.4, unit ~2.3 deg.
Unzoomed: total of 33, unit ~2.3-2.4 deg.

This is actually deceptively inaccurate, the only way I have used to measure the angles is looking at a straight edge that I was standing next to and guessing what it is off that. But the fact that they are about equal is pretty good, I cant be to far out.

I assume that the angle between looking as far up as possible and as far down as possible is 180 degrees. Try counting the amount of rounds it takes to get from bottom to top then work out the values.

Almost all firearms, when shot, recoil up and to the left. This is especially true for automatic weapons.

Why to the left(unless of course you are shooting from your left shoulder)?

Because of the way you hold it I think. You hold it (most people do) with your right hand on the handlenexttothetriggerthingymajicwhatever and the left hand on the fron grip.
So it will go up and left because of that.

So it looks basicaly like this (from right above) I think when you hold the gun: _\

I don't know if any of that made sense, Kenwayy can probably give a better explanation.

Watch the end of the barrel: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a7ZQHmAcsPE. The firing position for a carbine isn't exactly the same as a fully fledged rifle but the effects should be similar.

I can vouch for that, I'm a left handed shooter, and when ever I shoot I'm tensing my entire upper body including my arm on the foregrip, thus the action of recoil causes me to deflect to the left and raising the barrel up, back and left. If the barrel were to raise to the right, it means that I'm practically pulling the rifle towards my right, thereby tensing my hands and making for a shaky firing position (I tend to twitch when tensing my hands).

Exactly. And if you are in a comfortable firing position does the barrel tend to return to its original position?

Yeah, because you're not moving your arms, just your entire frame in one movement.
