Remove major repair from heavy armour and aircraft
The rounds last for 45mins upwards to maybe an hour and a half.
Realism is only part of this suggestion, changing tactics, hightened nerves and elevation of player enjoyment is the main reason why I suggest implementing this. Tanks/apc's : If it's tracked, you can replace/repair it in the field. If the turret is locked, you can't repair it. If it's taken health damage, you cannot repair it except to the point the vehicle stops shaking. Aircraft : heal enough health points to stop shaking of the aircraft, but no more. It's not merely an answer to the A10's and Cobras on AlBasrah being able to loop and destroy then rearm and resupply at their main base, it will add some excitement, raise nerves and develop new gaming methods of hide and seek rather than full on pre-glastnost soviet army behaviour. A plane shouldn't be able to rearm till it has come to a halt on an airfield either, although I'll go as far as saying we shouldn;t require a repair/supply truck to drive to the aircraft to do the business. Crewmen/Engineers should be able to replace/repair a track on armour in the field as well as a repair/supply truck. These ideas will go towards people stopping throwing armour to waste and will make people think once the implementation has sunk in and they realise what one team with hiding armour can do once they've raped the charging bulls of the other side. |

There will always be people who waste vehicles, be it armour or anything else.
And A10's and cobra's are about to go since Al Basrah is becoming British anyway. There will be 2 Apache's and hopefully no more choppers. |

yes, i agree.
this has really bugged me on Public servers, i seen tanks many times take H-AT hits only to bail out and repair the tank faster than i can reload |

I like the general idea a lot.. raise the stakes as it were.
But.. I understand the aircraft repairing only to the point they stop shaking.. but are you saying that if the turret of a MBT gets jammed.. you can never fix it? That seems too much. Repairing damaged assets in the field is an important 'teamwork team building element'. IMO. It should be able to be repaired to the point of being useful, or it will simply be abandoned. It would be nice if you had to return to main base to do certain repairs.. but i'm sure that is asking too much of the engine & coders time. |

If a turret is damaged, it's probably because the encolsed mechanism has been damaged or it is jammed by the tanks own material and that needs cutting kits to remove the offending material.
Actually, with 17 square kilometer maps, maybe getting tanks to the main base to full repair them isn't such a bad idea. We will see tanks slowly limping back across the terrain, crews terrified they are going to get blown up any minute. We would then need a technical static (destroyable) at the main bases(s) that when parked next to, repairs armour. Aircraft though, they are so delicate that major repairs aren't really feasible. Although if you make the planes taxi well, then there is no reason why they wouldn't have to fully enter a hangar and taxi upto another technical static inside that will do the work thus giving a considerable time penalty to the repair process which would remove some of the vanilla problems with repair. |

hmmm ideas ideas...
You can only repair something to full health if the 'Support/Repair Vehicle' is within 20m. The vehicle does not do the repairs but the engineer(s) that drove do… |

I like the general ideas but I think that they might get the opposite of what you want to achieve, having tanks go back to main base for rearm etc etc would be nice but in the pubs it would just lead the "blue-mob" to leave even more vehicles out in the field.
Im sorry that I dont have faith in the players, but allready when it's kind of easy to repair vehicles I see far to many just standing around in the middle of nowhere. |

One of the big problems we had in the original release of BF1942 was that an engineer class could take a tank out solo and by timing incoming and outgoing rounds and hopping out with the wrench during the reload time could be all but unstoppable.

Okay, then, to solve the teamwork problem, how about inconveniencing players that abandon tanks or don't use them correctly?
Place a "dome of death" around tank. As a crewman that have entered a tank, that tank now "belongs" to you. Whilst you are still alive you MUST stay within a certain radius of the tank until it is destroyed. Once destroyed, it is no longer yours. If you die or suicide outside that radius you are presented with a 60 second penalty and a loss of personal points (and teamwork points?) Repairing armour/air at the main base technicals gives you teampoints (and personal points?), thereby encouraging teamwork. |

What are you, a Nazi? Anyway, you won't cure dumb players by limiting good players. Idiots are a fact of life, and until it becomes legal to kill them they will always be around to do stupid things. I am very careful with my armor and air assets and keep them alive for long periods of time when I operate them. I personally don't believe I need any kind penalties that are not already in place if I lose them. | |
