Suppression Effect

Egads, possibly the most annoying thing in PR, period(pretty much everything else I've liked, superb job) is that looooooooooooooong blur and lack of hearing you get when a bullet hits near you. I don't know about others, but I know that if a bullet hits a few inches from me, I'm not going to have a seizure for 10 seconds, and then finally start to regain my bearings.

I heard somewhere it was meant to simulate 'fear', making you hit the dirt and look for cover...but wouldn't anyone with half a brain stem in PR do so when they hear the snap of the bullet regardless? I like the fact that your hearing gets messed up when the bullet hits near you, that's realistic...but the blur isn't. If you're oblivious enough to stay standing when the bullet snaps near you, you quite honestly deserve to get shot. If you're smart, hit the dirt, look for cover, and start scanning for an enemy, you should get the chance to pick off an enemy, rather than sit there for 10 or more seconds while you struggle to see straight.

Something to look into, kudos.

couldn't agree more on any of those statements Darkwarrior, just never had the guts to write a feedback about..

Okay not about the guts but about all the other million threads on this topic, that is why :P

But yeah, I agree the blur vision is kinda annoying, especially when you are under cover fire, sure keep the sound thing, but please remove the blur vision, if you are ment to be afraid and take cover, it could be an advantage to actually see where to run instead of this triangle explaining (DANGER! Shot just hit nearby, think it is time for you to find cover mate, now wait 2 sec longer for me to disappear)

Love suppression, but hate the blur.

Re: Suppression Effect

I came up with a perfectly viable suggestion to replace the blur and still instill that fear effect, but no dev ever commented on it

The suggestion was that you get a very light blur around the edge of the screen, and loss of hearing but the main kicker would be that while supressed your accuracy went through the roof. You wouldn't be able to hit the broad-side of a barn from 5 feet while suppresed. Which would require people to duck for cover to wait untill their accuracy returns. And lets face it, if you're getting shot at odds are you're gonna have shaky hands are unable to aim right. That's far more realistic then magicly going blind, and it achieves the exact same goal - making you hit the dirt and look for cover.

Actually Colt, there would be an unfair and unrealistic situation about that propose, if I am proned behind a 2 meter wall on a roof, and people shot on it at the other side, though the bullets don't go through, I don't really think it would be fair for my character not being able to cover the stairs waiting for reinforcements to take out my enemies that is suppressing me. As you said, I won't be able to hit jack when under suppresion.

Though I agree on your light blur suggestion.

....Damn I need something to do, I write on this forum all the time :P Even though this thread is probably gonna get locked.

Well some sort of hinderance is required, that I agree with. Without such hinderances it'd be normal BF2 all over again. And to be honest, which would you rather have? Decreased accuracy, or blindness? Personally I'd prefer to atleast see the enemy, that way I can notify my squad that the enemy is comming.

Plus my decrease in accuracy was obviously exagerated. You'd spray about as much as if you were running unscoped with full auto or something. So you'd be able to spray the stairs to suppress incoming enemies, just odds are you wont be able to kill them. I'd much rather that then sitting there blinded, unable to see and help my squad.

Re: Suppression Effect

maybe instead of the blurring your character gets slowed movement like you do when you're close to death? Or maybe opposite...maybe if you're getting shot at it pumps up the adreneline, which is what i think the blurring effect is meant to stimulate which I can kinda atest from because once there was some shooting down the street of my house and me and my friends droped to the ground and then ran behind my porch wall, heck i can't remember anything i saw.

Maybe we can put this suggestion of mine with the accuracy suggestion...ok, you get shot at, your ears ring, a light blurring at the edges which simulates the blood corsing through your head, your accuracy gets shakey where its hard for you to aim but your accuracy isn't shot but say, your gun is jumpy like if you were running. Also, your stanima jumps up where you can run for a much longer period of time with it barely depletes.

Re: Suppression Effect

im ok with the blurry vision ,but what bothers me is the tunnel vision , why reduce it if we already have a crappy field of view (compared to RL)?

Re: Suppression Effect

It's very fps dependent. Alienware machines only experience the effect for 1-2 seconds. I have to scope the ground or a very simple texture and it might go away in 20.

Re: Suppression Effect

Hmm don't exaggerate the effect guys, remember the same effect will happen everytime a shot is within 5 meter of you.

Uh and though "adrenaline kick" would be nice, it would be SOOOO abused when walking to a place, hope you see what I mean.
Uh and it wouldn't work either when you get slowed, since it is realistic that you would cover your head while on the move to a more safe place, but aint doable with the engine.
And I'dd rather run like hell.
Also getting slowed by the effect would be abused by noobs on the airfield, shoot within 5 meters, and they run faster than you to the transport helicopter or whaever.

Already kinda like the current effect, just think the blur should me lowered a bit.
