I think you'd have to make it like a vehicle, where youd have to "e" to enter it and move it around.

Snipehunt, that was one of my initial lines of thought when I was playing with this idea, but having seen the drop kit option in 0.9 and the deployable LMG emplacements, I figured there must be enough flexibility in the code to allow an item in the game world to exhibit two separate properties, I think the deployable LMG can either be picked back up with G or manned with E, so it is both a kit and an in game object simultaneously? Not 100% sure though.

Brilliant idea!
APC drops ammo box. Soldiers can then simply walk up to it and press 'G', to drop their kit and pick up the ammo box as if it was a kit. The soldier can then go wherever he wants with that ammo box and drop it again. I don't know if it's possible to make him not able to climb ladders and/or run? The ammo box keeps it's usual design of course. The question is, though: is this possible with the limited Refractor 2 engine? |

I believe that the kit should be able to be spawned by the driver...
...but I don't believe you could make it both a kit and an ammo source at one time. I could of course be wrong, but the solution to this would be: Ammo Box 'kit' does not give ammo. Picking up ammo box 'kit' gives you an unarmed kit with the only option being to hold the ammo box. To deploy the ammo box, click and you will drop it to the ground similarly to a rifleman ammo bag. Is now a regular ammo box that cannot be picked up again, but now gives ammo. That said: I'm not sure what to think of the idea, as it's purpose doesn't seem to warrant the importance of doing this work. |

Was kinda hoping for a Dev to advise if this was within the constraints of the engine, if not then we could discuss work-arounds, although IMO, some of the already proposed work-arounds overcomplicate the procedure of getting ammo from an APC to the point it probably wouldn't be worth it. As for the purpose, well, the primary purpose, as I see it would be to change the current system of 'break cover to get ammo' to 'enter cover to get ammo'. Rather than having to leave your fox-hole to get into the open area where the APC/Truck dropped ammo, you would have your ammo in your fox-hole. I think Mutrah City is a prime example, where you have people garrisoning building but running out to lie in the middle of the road to rearm. Other than the realism aspect, I think it would be quite fun.

How about making the ammo box dropped from APCs a small one-man vehicle by itself?
When you press E, you would enter it and it would look like you're dragging it. This way you can directly get ammo from it, and yet, move it. I don't know how the animations would work though.. Might look really silly. |

This is actually a pretty neat idea and would be very useful for most factions, but especially for the insurgent technicals and an RPG gunner. Sorry to necro, but I did at least use search...
