Give the sniper a radio and remove the rifle.. call it the recon kit.

Get rid of sniping = get rid of 80 % of immature and troublesome players.

(disclaimer: this is my assumption and suggestion, you have the usual right to disagree with it)

Ye I agree, but for that role an officer kit will do just fine.

the sniper kit is atm useless you might as well use a marksman kit and an officer kit i'm sure they can shoot the same ranges in game DM rifle and sniper rifle that is.
although this take away from infantry long range abilities its not foten used, a sniper should be given extra range and more spec abilities(eg. radio, rally point abilites and better GLTD*lase travels faster or something*)

Aaaaaand totally disagree with this one.

I have only seen one super decent sniper in PR, and he never operated with someone else. I tend to find that when trying to stay low and quiet that the last thing you want is someone else right next to you, as it presents a bigger target. The problem here is that the mentality of 'all snipers operate in 2 man teams IRL, so it has to be that in PR' has remained since the kit was introduced. This is not the case as the funamental rule of PR stays in place:
  • The more people trying to covertly complete an objective, the lower the chance of success.
This applies to sniping as well, as two targets sitting in the hills on Kashan have a double chance of being seen. The snipers best weapon is not being seen.
So why do you guys automatically assume the spotter has to be RIGHT there beside you? Giving away your super duper stealthyness. The name spotter is just a title, he doesn't even have to spot anything. He could stay behind cover the whole time, listening to the sniper and relaying information. Exposing himself only when it's time to lase a target or not even then, since the sniper also has a GLTD.

I know it's hard to believe there are good spotters who know how to do the job, most of the time sniper/spotter teams end up doing target practice, but it happens more than you know.

Although the marksman kit is great, it is not a sniper rifle and there are times where a 6 man sniper squad is useful. Or should i say, having a sniper in your squad is useful. Mainly in recon or defensive squads.

And i'll quote what CodeRedFox said in another suggestion about spotter kit, since it applies here too...

The likely hood that we will create a spotter is quite low as its a waste of a player on the battlefield. Although we are re looking at the sniper class to see what we can do to make it more efficient and more of a teamplayer instead of a loneworlf class.

I recently played as the sniper and I had a officer with me. Worked out exactly how a spotter would

A radio would be good because then they could mark targets on the map which i find more important in 0.9. I tend to use them more and pay attention ones on the map.

Radio is a good idea because without a commander the squadleader cant really mark anything otherwise.
we're not talking about small plastic FRS radios, we're talking a (approx) 12x5x16" metal box fully water proofed and armored enough to be dropped from the 2nd floor, a 3 or 6 foot antenna, 2 batteries the size of a box of microwavable popcorn (sry that's the only thing i can think of atm relatively similar in size), and possibly additional encryption hardware which is likely to be another 12x5x16" box

Anything can be a weapon, anyone can be a threat. Never under estimate the combat ability of your opposition. He may seem weak and harmless now but even a dead man can carry a few pounds of explosives in his gut or deliver a decisive blow by rotting away in your water supply.

Every time these kind of thread appear in the suggestion forum I wright the same thing..

guys! I dont think snipers operate on their own? The worst thing you can do when sniping is being alone.
A good sniper team is on 3 man.

Squad leader (green bino's, radio, weapon with scope for ranged combat, ability to put down rally)
Sniper ( Sniper rifle )
Specialist ( Rope, tripflares, Red-dot sight for Close combat )

Specialist and Squad leader spots and marks and sniper kills. Easy, I do we need a spotter kit? or a radio on the Sniper kit?

getting a radio on the sniper kit will just encourage lonewolfing and I think due to how far PR has come atm.. It shouldnt even be taken in consideration.

P2kk if you are using a sniper kit in that situation stop wasting the kit and take a marksman instead. You would basicly be a walking billboard.

not at all. i'd say it's more fun than being a commander, which i also like being (cause i can do other stuff at the same time).

i've been wanting to be a spotter in 0.9, maybe i'll try that today, if i'll be able to find a decent sniper.

maybe in a perfect world, but that sounds like a resource hog when your team only has 32 players. the least thing we need is more specialized units and less people pounding ground. feels like over 1/3 of the team is in vehicles as it is.

i ´m for it. A radio would be a perfect match for the sniper role.

I used sniper in both ways, with a spotter and also alone. It depends on whats going on on the map and what map it is.

I also agree with the 3 man sniper sq. But not ingame. Its a game and not RL.

And i agree with that what many guys say here:

We have 32 ppl per side. You guys really want 3 man sniper sq, 3 man in 1 tank and so on?

1 Question who defends and attacks the flags?

So i like a lone wolf sniper that gives me intel more then a sniper team up anywhere but not in flag range...

It would make sense. Recon is a big part of being a sniper, depending on the unit he operates in, sometimes its his only goal and he sure aint gonna use smoke signals. However I guess he would have something smaller, more expensive than an field communicator, some kind of headset maybe, so that would have to be modelled.
