JDAM is just a GPS guidance package that they mount onto a regular bomb (similar to the paveway Laser guidance kit)

so laser guided ones wouldn't really work...

The current bomb is sufficient enough. Though the OpFor bombs are a joke.
thats why you require a LASER DESIGNATOR from ground forces and the CO to ok the drop. (no CO =no drop, no laser designator from ground forces=no drop)

An enhanced version of the JDAM, the Laser targeted Joint Direct Attack Munition (LJDAM) has the flexibility to engage both fixed and moving targets. Boeing plans to complete its development of the 500-pound LJDAM in 2006. Initial production deliveries are planned to begin as early as 2007.

The weapon was successfully tested June 30, 2006 against a moving target. During the test at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla., a U.S. Air Force F-16 flying at 20,000 feet scored a direct hit on an Armored Personnel Carrier (APC) moving at 25 mph. Using its onboard targeting pod, the F-16 laser-designated the APC and released the 500-pound LJDAM approximately four miles from the target. The Laser JDAM sensor used is a modular, field installable kit.

thats the one you want though "tested in 2006" i doubt it would be in service yet so paveway would be best bet here.

Call it whatever, im not a munitions expert, im a Infnatryman, i kick in doors for a living. but i say give it to the flipin pilots, make it so that it needs a Laser Designation from the ground, and the OK from teh CO.

creates more teamwork. strategy, planing ( and listening to a CO) 5 min load after the plane taxies OFF the runway and back to a AIRCRAFT REARM postions by the hangers ( another thing to keep teh logi guys busy. and if the aircraft respawns then its 10 minutes to get the LJDAM (simulates having to switch the mounts or somthing.)

I like htat that powerful bomb is called in via a high altitude bomber type thing tbh, but the JDAM itself is kinda useless because of how it works. I would suggest artillery be used until the JDAM is made better

Why is everyone talking about "the JDAM is such a bigger bomb" and "JDAM do more damage"? The JDAM is not munition-specific to a particular poundage, JDAM is the guidance system and not the payload.

In other words, the GBU-31/32/38 are all JDAM munitions class, but each is a different poundage of ordnance. So you can have JDAM munitions in 500, 1000, and 2000 lb payloads.

The use of a JDAM munition on the battlefield is for when regular laser-guided or dumb munitions are not desired, or when the aircraft must drop the munition from substantial height due to ground-air threats. In the realm of PR, pilots are not operating at the altitudes normally flown during JDAM release. And if you are using a GLTD to guide the munitions then a standard LGB such as the Paveway will work just as well. Again, the payload is exactly the same, only the guidance method is different.

And in my opinion, players are currently using the JDAM in PR incorrectly. The JDAM is usually not meant as an area attack weapon, but instead as a precision attack weapon. Once artillery is introduced, the use of JDAM should be strictly limited to specific maps or circumstances in which you need a single precision target taken out that artillery is either insufficient or too inaccurate to kill. Somethinig like taking out a bunker is where the JDAM shines, leave the artillery or LGB's to taking out armor and troops.

exactly, the "realitstic" altitude for release of such a weapon would put you out of the sky box and you wouldn't be able to see your target anyway...
