I agree.

But to the people who have their doubts because they think the pilot could die outside of the chopper: I have very rarely seen a pilot get TK'ed when he's not in a helicoper, even on maps like Muttrah or Barracuda where people can be standing around on the eck for a long time.
Plus, having the pilot worth more tickets would also dissuade people from using them as paratroopers, which is now very uncommon anyway because the pilot no longer has a pistol.

All I'm saying is that pilots who can handle their helicopters well and make succsessful emergency landings shouldn't be punished simply because they were shot down.

I can say from experience that it is very difficult to land a disabled chopper in PR, but not impossible.
In the rare occurance where it happens and the pilot escapes alive, he should be rewarded, not punished with losing 20 tickets for his team.

Plus, it could make for some awesome search and rescue missions...

Great idea, love the incitament for the pilot to survive. Also, it can be done, IIRC it says in the manual that snipers and HAT kits and are worth more than regular infantry. We could also give pilots their pistols back also as paratrooper armies would be pretty stupid.

However this quote below is a showstopper of course. A work around has to be figured out otherwise the concept is useless.

Yea this would stop people getting the MEC crewman kit and absolutely dominating.

I think that having the pilot kit worth tickets is deffinately a good idea. This would make extractions more common. At the moment there are hardly ever extractions in PR. You get a lot of insertions but then people just run around till they die.

+1 for making pilot kit worth tickets

My problem with this, is that you the team gets rewarded for the players action, but the player them self doesn't. Often players don't care about the team as much as they care about themselves (as evident by apcs being used as light tanks and not transport, abandoned transport trucks, etc). These players will say screw the team, I wanna fly again, and suicide or intentionally die. Also, what is stopping grievers from constantly taking pilot kits and dieing? (And don't say admin cause they are not always around.)

In my opinion the only way that pilots will ever value their life is to punish them for dieing, rather than reward them for living. Here is a semi-serious suggestion:

How about we give the player who dies as a pilot a 5 minute respawn. Has only positives in my opinion:
1) Prevents bad pilots from destroying all the helicopters in 2 minutes.
2) Makes the pilots want to stay alive saving the team a ticket and saving himself 5 minutes of doing nothing.
3) The crashed helicopter will not spawn for another 5-20 minutes anyways.

The counter point to this would be that the team wouldn't have a pilot to transport and deliver supplies. But ask yourself this, how often do you see more choppers than there are pilots? A bit of an exaggeration but I can assure you that you will almost never encounter this problem.

Spawn time doesn't work. 5 mn spawn? Don't worry, hi takes at least double anyway. Just go get a drink, tab out or open web browser oven leave an rejoin the server.

If you want to change someones behaviour, make it fun and rewarding for them to do so.

Punishing the team won't work apart from on those who care anyway, and punishing the player is not effective in an online game.

Chances are that pilot is just going to wait for the heli again anyway so a 5 min spawn just gets him out of the situation where he would just wait on the pad and get told off by the team.

Like I said it was a semi-serious suggestion. To be honest, I'm fine with how it is now. I do think punishing the player them self does work though. Take .7(I think) for example. Back then if you killed something like 3 civilians you got 'court marshaled' or something and killed for a very long time. Now look at the current version where killing civilians hurts the players score(big deal, we all know the points really mean nothing) and cause the team to lose 7 intel. How many civilians do you see killed?

The OP suggestion works if everyone is team oriented. But in my experience, air assets bring out the tards which could care less about the team. If they are willing to H-AT the cobra because they didn't get it, I'm pretty sure they don't care about surviving and saving the team 5 tickets or w/e it is.

The problem is what punishment would you suggest?

Until I know I am playing always with 63 close friends I can trust, the only thing that will make me bail out and try to stay alive is if it halved the asset spawn time or something. Spawn time? Meh, just breaks imersion, can go and do something else while I wait. Tickets? Not an idea solution, since most people just don´t care, and others don´t think of it in the moment. Whats left? No pilot kit for 20 minutes? Just leave the server and rejoin. The asset spawn time is too long to make any spawn time punishments worthwhile.

Tickets don´t come into it, especially in that moment. Its not that I don´t care about the teams tickets, but it just isn´t a bad enough punishment, if I am hit I am not thinking "oh, I better save 10 tickets so someone else can waste them" I am thinking "I better try hardest to get this thing back to base or wait a year for it to respawn".

Apart from anything, I see no point in jumping out with nothing to defend myself with. You can´t go rambo with a pistol unless you have an aimbot or something, and somewhat decent squad working together ends that.

To be honest, I don't have a decent solution to this problem. I agree with what you said Alex about possible punishments and their negatives. But I still feel there will be no sufficient reward for surviving that's gonna make players go "Hey I should survive so I get rewarded with ________."

But a five minute spawn time would decrease the number of noobs spawning on carrier, grabbing a chopper, crash within minutes, spawn, grab next, crash, spawn, crash etc etc. Thats what I hate the most.

Also a five minute spawn could be implemented togheter with the suggestion of massive ticket loss for pilots. Making your team loose tickets and wait five minutes is two things i really dont want to do. The noob dont care about the tickets but he sure as hell cares about 5 minutes spawn time.
