Remember that somebody has to fly the UAV remotely several miles away.... Maybe replace JDAM or artillery with this drone on some maps? SLs have to laze targets, and the theUAV shoots at every one of those for 30 seconds or however long artillery lasts?

The idea seems easily abusable and will attract a lot of those "OMG 1337" players.

Decent idea.

Make a flight radius (50m), have it travel along that, then would fire every x seconds for y seconds, so that Y/X=number of missiles the UAV would be equipped with.
(In English, that means that if the UAV has 5 missiles, and it flies around for 15 seconds before disappearing, then it could fire a missile every 3 seconds. 6 missiles, 30 seconds = one missile every 5 seconds)

Getting it to identify and fire at lazes on it's own, however, is another story entirely. That'd be db's field.

This would be quite a cool adition to the commander position. I think if it was armed with maybe like 2 missiles only and had a similar reload time to the area attack it could be effective. Would have to fly at a lower altitude than the recon drone so it could be gunned down.

I am aware that this has been ruled out when the UAV was re released.. but it would still be cool.

Well, seeing as artillery, mortars, or the jdam cannot be stopped, I think it wouldn't need to be any lower than the recon UAV.

And considering the fact that the MQ-1 Predator IRL has only 2 hellfires, it's already very... limited in it's ability to destroy.

Preferably, the UAV could be called into an area, which it would begin flying in a circle. The commander could then switch to that screen and manually aim the hellfires like a helicopter gunner would (It would need to be low enough to see lazes, at the very least, even if it can't see the targets directly...) Perhaps the recon drone would need to fly to that zone, then the commander would activate a 'weapons hot' mode in which the uav would begin flying on a stationary path. Since it would now be flying on it's own, rather than functioning as a guided missile, the missiles could be fired but there would be no flight control beyond flying in a circle. (This is all on assumption, as I don't know whether db has actually thought about it in this way, so, it's by no means saying that it is possible)

This could be used in different ways... for instance, air support could be integrated on maps that are too small to actually incorporate it through players, by way of commander assets... An attack helicopter could be called in from 'off the map', and hover in an area, where the commander could then access the gunner's screen and fire off hellfires at targets. A ground-attack jet could be called in from off the map, fly over the area in a straight line, and during this flight the commander would be placed in 'bomb view' of the aircraft, letting the bomb drop when the jet is over the target area, and the bomb would guide itself into lazes just like a jet's bomb on Kashan or Qinling can.

So many ideas. Maybe I should post them in a new thread on air-based area attacks...

We will get Hell fire drones eventually but not for a while.

But it pretty safe to say the dev's will want to think through the concepts and there implementation thoroughly through first. there to dangerous and influential weapons just to be introduced with no thought payed to the dynamics and balance of the game.

one of my friends have concerns about the recon UAV's said basically the same thing that they make the game to easy.

But i don't think so they will just make things more organized, And less of a confusing mess.

A general rule in war/action games = if it doesnt kill something directly it should not be in :P

That is a terrible rule. There are many things that don't kill something directly in modern warfare as intelligence is more vital than offensive power in a lot of cases. Currently in PR we have Firebases/spotters/drivers/support trucks/transport trucks/sandbags/foxholes/transport choppers/unarmed humvees all of which play a large part in the game and are not intended to kill something directly.

No offensive weapons on the UAV please, we have enough air power and need more recon options.

PRBot - Supapinghi, you got 9 on your sarcasm roll -- a poor roll. Snooggums, you're going to have to roll greater than that to understand that it is in fact a sarcastic statement Supa is posting.

*Snooggums rolls*

PRBot - Snooggums, you got a 1.. That's an epic fail. Now you must make an embarrassing post in-which you lecture Supapinghi about how wrong he is, completely unawares of the sarcasm in his statement.

/end of reliving my childhood.

On topic - No, we do not need hellfires, jdams, or water balloons on the commander UAV.

Yeah, I totally misread that smiley in the context of the comment since the sarcasm was so similar to what it was mocking

To bad I can't +rep him to make up for it.
