Default VIEW DISTANCE?

Hey!

edit: IN SHORT:
How much longer could the view distance be working OK on some maps with 200-300m view?
Longer view distance would be nice on those maps.

I wonder what would happen if the view distance is to be increased on many infantry maps. This to increase the reality. Some maps have extremely short view distance eg. 200-300. What would happen/be problem if having 800+ view distance on all maps? (kashan is the best?)

I know it partly has to do with FPS decrease, but then you can lower the settings in BF2 graphics settings if you think you loose too much fps on some maps. Since the computer hardware is constantly evolving I suppose most players computers can handle more than the 200-300m distance that are on some maps, some map distances were set during the start of PR(?) and now many have better computers.

Thanks!

This may have been suggested before, but I have checked both AAS and searched the forum.

lag every one that plays PR plays on a year 2000 or lower pc.

they should up grade... lol if they would go out and spend 3-6,000 we could up the view.

so short No we can't up the view because the low end gamers would lag and cry then leave the community.

lucky I have a great rig and will be waiting for ofp2 and 0.86

Twisted Helix: Yep you were the one tester that was of ultimate value.

hey... you missed the part about using the BF2 graphic settings (view distance slider)... that is what DICE did so that the ones with not 2000 or older pcs can actually get a good view distance and if u have low fps you slide it down. It may not be fair in some ways, but people with lower ping, higher fps and higher geometry settings etc already have advantage.

This way the player that actually knows its own fps, can set their own settings...

I have a good rig also, I would love longer view distance

BUT too many players have comps that cannot handle it.

Yes, they could decrease view distance, but that gives me an unfair advantage which I don't want. I wanna win cuz I had better teamwork or tactics, not cuz I'm lucky enough to be able to afford computers.

If you play vs a guy with more ping, lower fps and you have your settings higer, you already have a significant advantage...

This has been suggested before and it is up to the DEVs to decide what they want for their maps.
