Default Stryker suggestion from a grunt

Hey just wanted to add a tidbit from an Stryker infantryman in Iraq.

It is US Army policy for deployed Strykers to be fitted with "bird cages". Also, every Stryker in my division is fitted with a "sniper net" as well. Just in case you want to make it more realistic. This mod is unbelievably awesome but the Stryker model is one of those things that makes a true soldier cringe a bit.

Here's a reference:

They use to have the RPG cages on the Brit scimmy but they caused problems, can't remember exaclty what now, so only the non-caged model is used now. I assume the same problem would affect a cage put on a Stryker.

-IIRC, BF2 doesn't like bird cages and sends vehicles flying if the cage impacts on anything.

Ah, yeah, it used to clip things and go flying up in to the air, a bit like the 'Basrah gate effect.'

Out of interest, what is the purpose of the cage?

It stops RPGs and other rockets before it gets to the srs bsns armor. The projectile thinks that it has hit the vehicle and it explodes several inches from the actual armor, which is much, much less harmful than exploding right up against it (usually most or all of the force is shot forward. When up against the armor, all of that force goes straight into the armor. When it is a few inches from the armor, the gases have some space to spread out over a larger area, and there is regular air that the expanding gas must surpass)

Think as if it were liquid fluids instead of gas and air. They are essentially the same, just at much, much smaller densities. In a pool of water, a jet is shot out of a tube at extremely high pressure. If it is several inches form a material, there won't be nearly as much damage as if it were shot right up against the material.

It has something to do with making RPGs and other launched explosives less effective against the armor by causing the shaped charge to impact on the wrong surface (I.E. farther away from the real armor).

Edit: Arg, ninja'd by a more useful post.

Been suggested many times and commented on by Stryker Operators. The reason it's not currently in game is that the collision meshs for the RPG cages are very glitchy. For reasons beyond my grasping it causes very bad things to happen, like the vehicle being thrown very high up into the air or getting vehicles stuck on lamp posts.

Thanks for your interest, though next time, please use the Search Function as well as the Attention! Already Suggested Suggestions thread to avoid duplicate suggestions.

Regards,
[R-MOD]Tirak
