The Project Reality Launcher

This suggestion is not about the actual game itself.

I am suggesting Project Reality to have a Launcher, or a auto run. I go tthe idea from the 2142 mod First Strike, when you click on the shorcut a box came up, saying the latest news, the game link and updates. if you dont know what I mean a simple version could be the BF2 autorun when you insert the game disk.

Why I think this could be useful. When I play Project Reality I launch many apps. Mumble, Widecreen Fixer and of course Project Reality. With the Launcher It would be grouped together, and with other elements such as a news feed.

If someone could point ancient man to this thread he could say if its possible/good idea.

I approve of this idea.

The FS Launcher is a great little thing imo, mainly because it makes it possible to release minor fixes without having to release a patch, just like Steam.
Not to mention you can(like you suggested) integrate other useful stuff like Mumble, WSF and tools to clear the cache etc etc.

I am also thinking of adding a tutorial tab.

There ws a nide floating around to do with the Project Reality Downloader. They were going to try to intergrate training videos (tactics, flying helis ect) into the downlaoder. If we intergrated it into the Project Reality Launcher then new PR players may learn from the videos, and so less noobish actions on servers and forums

BTW i think incremental updates will not work for PR, devs have always said they liek big bundles of joy! But I think import news updates plus news updates that wiont appear on front page should appear on the launcher (Pr tournement signups open, results of tournement, new release of PR, new vehicle eye candy ect)

I have no idea, but wasnt this hardcoded, i remember the devs said they made something like this, but for some reason it didnt really work. But that could perhaps be the splash screen.

The devs wanted to change the splash screen ( when you play the BF2 pic that comes up in the cenetr screen)

THis Laucnher isnt hardcoded, techinically its not part of BF2, its its own app sl no hardcodedness!!

THe person who will know most about this sort of stuff is prob ancientman

To integrate mumble would be a great idea but don't know if it could be done without both permission from the developers and some kind of integration between a PR server and it's mumble equivalent.

I am sure they are able to do this. Mumble is open source, and so the devs would create a PR flavoured mumblle, which would be launched from the launcher. THat way the normal mumble wont be affected.

I am writing an email to the dev of the widescreen fixer to allow us to budle his app with the launcher, or even better extract the BF2 part only and have it as a tick box system
