Wait, WTH does that have to do with this?

Anyways, I'm inclined to agree that making the change to a static weapon map without any markers would be too big of a step. However, that doesn't mean we can't remove the map from infantry SMs, which is extremely unrealistic. I do agree with Vege, that taking the entire blue mob off the map might also be counter productive, but allowing at least to see the SLs location would benefit everyone. Of course you won't know if a single SM was killed simply by looking at the map, as it should be. There are many easy ways to communicate this, such as through the CO or teamchat.

I'm not saying I don't want to see static maps, I"m just saying it would be too great a change between builds. I'd almost be tempted to make a weapon slot though for a "D-DACT" system though, which would allow you to pull out your map, simply because people are able to open their maps nearly instantly, even while engaging in a firefight. THAT wouldn't have any other effect than to lengthen the map draw time, and I can't see any problems with that at present.

Yea, inter-SL voip would be GREAT, but it's not needed to take away the blue SMs off the map. Vehicles can keep most things the way they are, escept take the blue SMs off too. This wouldn't cripple gameplay, but would make it more realistic and add a job for the CO that isn't needed but would greatly benefit the team – better communications and tactic coordination.

I like the idea , but i use my map so much!!! i use it everytime i walk somewhere to check around me. If i am storming a building, i check if there are friendly's there. If there not, i can be safe to shoot at anything that moves

This indeed is a problem.
Just a suggestion: If we could colour code the SL:s on the map and instead of their Squadnumber on the icon put number inside how meny squad members they have inside 100meters or so. This way other SL:s could see the power of other squads without magically seeing where they are.
We could also give exra info on map markers to indicate how meny friendlies are currenly capping the flag. This would remove some of the fuzziness form flag capping if this would be implemented.

It's true that we can't make every game aspect just harder and harder but I think we could adjust the gameplay so people would by nature act more realistically by changing the tools given to them.
Thinking what would be the real direction to approach a flag or trying to work together to avoid blue vs blue situations.
Lonewolfs will adujust if they get edge by doing so. This would also encourage teamplay as people would team up more just to be shot less frequently as enemy.

I use map all the time (3-5 sec intervals) but if im on foot i don't use the map to check agains friends or foes.
Imho it's quite easy to seperate friend from foe for the shade of the outfit or from the gun.
I use map allot inside vehicles as people usually duck/hide when vehicles arrive and you can see only head or upper body.

squad leaders could report their location to Commander and he could put a friendly marker (if one were to be created) in that location. that is if they plan to keep the cammander in the rear...where he has to micro manage.

This here would basically force a commander and mic for SLs which will never happen or be done.

Mics are cheap. cheaper than most periferals. if you,r mouse was busted, you'd go out and buy one. PR is well worth a $10 microphone.

Still, it doesn't change the fact that there still won't be a Commander half the time. There wasn't even a CO half the time in 0.7 when it was needed, let alone one who stuck around for the whole match. And just because they have a mic doesn't mean they are competent or even want to talk to the CO.

good idea, but every soldier should get a topographical map with the grid locations. makes it good for spotting for support.

Try to imagine how this would look ingame...
For example Muttrah City, no commander, due to hardcoded limitations no possibility for VOIP between SLs...

Now my squad moves quick from the east side to west city, shall I TYPE every 5 seconds where I am??? In CQB situation its nearly impossible to lead your squad, defend yourself AND then type to other squads what you want/need. Since 0.8 its also not posible to mark enemies on map by yourself...
For now its good to tell another squad in area that you need help and they can catch up with you to help you...
IN REAL you have a radio operator that can commuinicate with another squad, INGAME you DONT... so like I said in an earlier post: The strict comparison of REALITY and INGAME is crap, instead look for a balance between reality and gameplay/fun...
