Suggestion: Give passenger seat ability to open doors, like the Merlin's back door, so soldiers can use the doors as cover. See example below.
![]() The Merlin has already accomplished this. The passenger (seat 2, shotgun seat) can use S and A to open/close the front side doors of the humvee. Rear doors if devs want to. Problems I see: 1. The model we are currently using is from the US Intervention Mod Team, and I do not know how much freedom and capability the Devs have with their (wonderful) model. 2. The doors may or may not be a single object on the model itself. I do not know much about the model at all, and I think it is likely the door is not a separate piece from the rest of the HMMWV. We may have to cut apart USI's model, and again, I do not know how much freedom we have with their model. 3. Doors being opened/closed while moving, or doors being open while moving. This could be a problem. Solutions I see: 1. I know that someone is modeling an up-armored HMMWV to be used in PR, and they have the ability to give the PR team (or just do it themselves) the freedom to do this with the doors. 2. Using the new model also solves this problem. I do not know if the new model has doors being seperate, but I can imagine (although I am no CAD specialist) that they can cut off the doors without too much problem. 3. I do not know if this is possible with the BF2 engine. If it is not, this idea is worthless, and this thread should be locked and thrown away. My suggestion is that when the humvee is moving faster than a certain speed, the doors close. It could be just two frames like our door models on Korengal, or it could be an auto-animation to quickly close on their own. I searched through the ASS thread by hand, looking at each one. I didn't find anything. I also searched, in that thread, "Doors" "Humvee" "HMMWV" and "open." I did a forum search for "open Humvee doors" "open HMMWV doors" "Humvee doors" "HMMWV door" and found nothing related to the subject. Link to the up-armored HMMWV being modeled |

Vehicles can't take much punishment in PR really, even from small arms, and without a 'lean' feature, you'd still have to expose most of yourself to return fire.
Add to that the fact that vehicle surrounded by troops = RPG magnet and I don't personally think it'd be worth the effort. 9 times out of 10 when I'm a passenger in a vehicle taken under fire, I'll jump out and head to the nearest cover away from the vehicle, just because it's such a high priority target. Nice idea, but of limited use IMO. |

since the merlin can do it, don't see why it wouldn't be possible
(unless it might cause lag on vehicle? When I have a hummer, BOY! do I use it as cover, its one of the perks of the vehicle since it has a nice height on the bonnet. Not sure if the doors would really give much cover because as stated, no lean feature. But nice thinking outside the box |

Nice idea, but as others have stated, it probably won't fit as well in-game. PR is much more limited in terms of your ability to interact with the environment (in contrast to games like ArmA). No lean, etc...

The M1113 was the first really "bullet-proof" HMMWV. The ones we have ingame are M1114s. So yes, the HMMWVs we have are bullet proof.
I see what you all mean by how this wouldn't have much application because of lack of lean, view camera position, interaction with environment, etc. It wouldn't be used much, but I think it still has application. If you are taking fire, then you have cover once you get out of the HMMWV instead of just getting shot. And although the vehicle is a priority target, it does offer a lot of protection if the enemy doesn't have AT, and the location behind the door is a good place to wait for other squad members (you can shoot while not in the HMMWV, giving cover fire) or healing, or preparing for a mad dash to cover away from the vehicle. |

Nothing like using a death trap as cover. Besides, I'd just lay down and shoot under the door while you futilely try to use it to protect you.

I forsee one major problem.
SL: "Okay guys, this is a tight squeeze through this gap in the fence" Billy Mcnoob: "Hey, what happens If I hold S?" (Door opens) (Door Hits Fence) (HMMVW Flies 2000 feet in air) (Everyone Dies) That and the fact that All those guys around a Humvee is a bullet magnet and it would be easier to just hide under the thing. Cool suggestion, but too hard to make work for not a very big payoff IMO. |
