Default Binocular Improvement

I would like to start that I am fairly new to the forums, this is my second post and I am loving project reality, it is 10 times better than vanilla Battlefield 2.

This could be a small improvement to the binoculars. When using binoculars in Project Reality everything is in focus which is unrealistic compared to real life. In real life the binoculars have to be focused so that what you are looking at appears clear. This would make spotting for snipers and looking out for enemies more dynamic, challenging and more realistic.

I hope that this is possible with the battlefield 2 engine and that it is not hardcoded.

It would feel most intuative with the scroll wheel on the mouse, if this is not possible (mayby because it is uesd for switching weapons) then two keys on the keyboard that are next to each other could work or the mouse buttons.

I have searched the forums for this idea and checked the already suggested suggestions list and it is not on there.

Please state your views on this, i don't mind constructive criticism

Kinda confused

If your talking about the detail of a soldier when looking with binos from a distance is very unclear. Then its the engine , nothing to do with the mod

I know this is not the mods fault, it is like this in vanilla.
Have you ever used a pair of binoculars and you have to focus to see objects/people/scenery clearly
Its like focusing in a camera

In bf2 vanilla/pr everything is always in focus and clear

Impossible i think. Wouldnt know that there was anything like this in BF2 that could be used for this.

Seems pretty much hardcoded to me.

Hey Addaco, check this thread out.

http://www.realitymod.com/forum/f18-...-hope-2-a.html

There's a neat feature in Forgotten Hope 2 (BF2 mod) involving shader effects that gives a sort of depth of field effect. Give this thread a bump and see where it gets you.

That looks awesome!
Would be very nice to see that in PR.
You can zoom with your Gun-Scope and see movement outside of the focussed Area.

With regards to scopes, I'm fairly sure it isn't possible to have the centre of the screen zoomed in whilst the area surrounding the scope isn't. This is why the area outside of the scopes in BF2 are blacked out.

With optics and iron sights however, this may be possible in PR, I dunno though.

EDIT: @ Addaco. Having varying levels of focus probably isn't likely. Scrolling mouse wheel functions, as you've said yourself is coded to a key assignment. The only other way that I can see would be multiple right clicks of the mouse, meaning that you would have to go through all of the desired focus levels with clicks, much like the 2 zoom levels on the sniper rifles. This wouldn't have the desired effect of finding focus or smoothly adjusting your binocs.

The best you could hope for is a similar effect you can see in those pictures, with a slightly out of focus area around the edge of the screen.

some good binoculars dont need focusing for different distances, but distances under 250m and with the use of Eye Ball Mk.1, we would not have to use binoculars or focus them nearly as often as in any game.
