Default How to stop people abandoning vehicles?

This idea i posted originally in the 'Enemy weapons on vehicles' thread and only applies really to Insurgency maps as a way of trying to combat the large amount of dumped vehicles that are always all over the map (particularly Basra).

How about if insurgents find a truck or landy and are within, say, 5 meters of their cell leader they can request certain kits off it?

Before you guys blast me, no i don't mean limited ones i simply mean like the Rifleman or for cell leaders the officer kit but with less ammo for each weapon so as to represent the fact that the vehicles previous occupants would have taken some themselves. The drive behind this idea is to represent the insurgents raiding the vehicles supplies. It'd help promote some squad play in the insurgents and would also hopefully cut down on using the vehicles purely as a one man lift rather than as a combat weapon.
You’d never ever leave vehicles lying about if it meant you were handing insurgents new toys to play with.

Lots of love

Not a good suggestion, imo. As it will have absolutely no effect on the smurfs abandoning vehicles.. Critizise them in chat instead.
Still, cool idea to request a 'crippled' rifleman kit or two off a jeep, enemy even.

letting enemys use jeeps in any kind of way is not going to stop players from dumping them...

Keep in mind that jeeps aren't always dumped because one tard decided he needed a fast ride into the battlefield, and swiped the jeep and booked it. Countless times on Basrah have me and two others taken a land rover, and drove into the battlefield only to be engaged by an Insurgent ambush, getting us either shot in the vehicle, or forcing us out of the vehicle, where we subsequently get shot. Now, what happens is...the insurgents don't destroy the vehicle, because they know that it won't respawn, and that they have to come fetch/destroy it themselves.

The problem is everyone obviously wants to avoid walking all the way to the front, obviously. But what are squads supposed to do after they've got to where they want a rally, set it up and want to start an assault? Going in with all guns blazing out of a command truck isn't gonna be a very good option alot of the time, so people can either walk all the way from main to setup rallies, or abandon vehicles.

Of course there are occasions where you can keep transport near your rally, in case you need to get to another part of the map quickly due to some **** up after everyone died. But most of the time once you've done whatever your doing wherever you are, you want to be advancing to keep pressure up on the enemy, not going back for a Land Rover or whatever.

If people were willing to drive a supply truck all game long, then there wouldn't be this problem. However it's not quite the same thrill as flying, so very very very very few people do it.

I think the only real way to resolve this is to have some command on supply trucks, and perhaps hummers and the like, to make them disappear into thin air and then spawn back at main after a while to simulate being transported by a 3rd party. There's probably some flaws in either coding that, or the gameplay implications of that, but I can't think of any at the moment. If something like that works or not, I still don't think it's possible for even the best of squads to look after transport all the time.

Also in real life, you have for eg Brits, a Warrior insertion for them, they do their stuff with support from a FSG with the Landys and the .50s, you have designated drivers and stuff to do that, not so in PR.

The real question would be 'how to stop retards car jacking your only transport/.50 cal in order to get themselves killed for no f*cking reason'.

The other day on Kashan some prick stole the Humvee we had for defense against Supercows on Kashan 16p with my squad's Heavy AT guy in it and drove over half the map then died since I managed to get enough rounds into him to start bleeding when he drove past my face.

Or jumping into a Humvee to deploy an ammo cache as my squad mate is using the .50 cal and we both get kidnapped by some retard who drives us straight into 3 enemy squads getting him and us killed. Then calls us 'pussies' and 'lame' because all we do is 'sit around with that jeep when we could go into action'

Or a guy trying to nick the Humvee I used for defense of East Beach on Jabal. I get into the driver seat for a few moments, then switch to the .50 and the guy jumps back in faster than ninja and drives me past an enemy bunker again with truck load of enemies, getting me killed, then drives through the entire map to get to West beach on the other side of the map and dies. Meanwhile we lose East Beach.

Fair points guys

How do you guys think it stands up as just an idea rather than a way of stopping abandoned vehicles?

Okay.....what about this....

Is there any way possible to make it so certain vehicles could be "scrapped" or destroyed once they reach a certain point of disrepair or are crippled?
This is a common practice IRL when vehicles cant be towed or reach a state where they are unrepairable out on the front-lines, This practice deprives the enemy of any opportunity of making use of spare parts, weapons systems, or comm gear.

Since most vehicles have different levels of damage, it could be made so once a certain level is reached.....and after the vehicle is a certain distance from the main base.....the vehicle could be destroyed by FF in order to "deprive the enemy" and also to allow the vehicle to respawn.

This would also come in handy and add a great deal of realism should enemy be allowed to ever use the F2 gun seat on certain vehicles.

"We had better destroy this crippled landy. If we dont, Haji will be along soon, and use this 50 cal on us or another unsuspecting squad!"

Kick ass!
