The M110, which has been discussed endlessly, will not be issued as a squad level weapon. The US Army squad designated marksman rifle is another accurized M16A4 or regular M4 (an accurized M4 with a slightly longer barrel was developed for the 82nd, but never made it into production) with a Harris bipod and the standard 4x ACOG. Some units still use M14s. The USMC M14 DMR assembled by the Precision Weapons Section will probably be completely phased out in the near future by the Mk-11. M14 DMR already seems to be relegated to Security Forces (including FAST) and Military Police SRT designated marksmen, but I have heard of them and seen photos of them in use by Navy VBSS, EOD or shore installation security forces (Masters at Arms). M24A3 in .338 Lapua is an independent effort by Remington and has not been adopted by the US Army. Locking this thread for resuggestion. | |
