The 'do not fire in/out of DoD' rule is ridiculous. The DoD isn't there to prevent firing or being killed, that's what we have the mortar and carrier shields for, it's just disallowing one team entering a certain area.

And yet if this rule was not in place on some maps, those would be ruined:

Unless you updated it and I missed it, the chinese are always getting shot inside their main base on qwai once the last flag is in play.
Same with the french on marlin. A tank can easily shoot inside when its at the west side of the map.
Fools road is obvious. Korengal as well, etc...

There is a reason why every single server is using such a rule in one form or another.

But thats off topic.

I think it would not be a bad idea to indicate the DOD, but if it is not possible because of different DoDs on different layers or any other reason, then it shouldnt be done. All maps should obviously be held equal on that matter.

Then why not call it 'do not shoot inside enemy main base' and enforce it as such instead of basing it on DoD which as we're discussing here isn't marked ingame in any way other than walking into it to find it and differs in size/location.

Because main bases themselves are usually tucked in the corners. If people were allowed to fire into the DoD, you could camp almost all main bases in the game effortlessly with half a squad. And while there are a few individuals who're into this pidgeon shooting, most of us are not because it's simply unfair.

Allow fire out of bases, disallow into. People will stay away from bases themself.

This is not working. Most of the people will just return fire, also on Lashkar and some other maps you could just sit in main with SPG techi and snipe ppl.

Exactly my point, you're wouldn't be allowed to return fire(admins etc), and therefor it would be in your interests to stay away from mainbase to avoid being shot without ability to shoot back.

Tried that a year ago back when I was part of DPRC. Some people got it and appreciated the rules. Others did not really approve the change without any reason given whatsoever.

But this was also heavily abused on some maps like Fallujah, Korengal...


About the server rules:
Frontliner nails it right there. Shijia Chinese main as an example. Or even Burning Sands. Imagine a CAS heli on burning sands being allowed to shoot inside DOD. Nothing would leave main.

Is it possible to script no damage if you shoot in DoD or no damage if you shoot from DoD?
