Not necessarily. Although it's relatively easy to shoot down a player with his chute out, it's much harder to hit a player who is free falling. If you para-dropped into the map, you wouldn't have to have your parachute out the whole time. You'd only be vulnerable a fraction of the journey, so spawn raping wouldn't be much of a problem. We all know how hard it is to spot and shoot down a skilled spec ops when he's parachuting down to destroy your UAV.

On further trauling through the forums, it seems that making a parachute 1 shot has been looked at, and is not possible:

Thats true but when this is implemented i think the chute should open immediatly. It would be very lame if the freefall thing is used. Imagine what it looks like if on some points people falling right out of the sky all the time. Its pretty funny but completly not realistic

You'd still see people open their parachutes... but closer to the ground.

in real paradrops you must open your parachute far before you reach the ground so if you make it realistic spawnraping will become a problem

Ok, so you don't want guys dropping from the sky wherever they're needed.
And random guys just parachuting in randomly isn't good either - remember we want to encourage teamwork with this mod.

How about: noone on the squad can respawn until the squad leader calls for one (he doesn't have to be dead). If he's still alive, anyone who's dead can paradrop in on his position. If he's dead the whole squad spawns together.
But the squad leader can set the respawn point and that point (like requesting supplies and arty) has to be approved by the commander.
And to prevent whole squads from just roaring back to life all the time, the "squad paraspawn" option has to refresh like arty and supplies. So you'd need new commander speak "Squad Leader: reinforcements available!" and "Squad Leader: reinforcements being inserted in your area!"

And to prevent squads randomly paradropping at arbitrary points in the map ("quick! everyone paradrop at the enemy main base!"), the whole-squad para insertion point has to be within a certain range from either a team owned flag or within a certain range of their own squad leader or (if the squad leader is dead) another squad.

This could make for some interesting possibilities. The commander could see that squad 1 is pinned down somewhere, everyone is dead or dying and he could approve a drop of a medic squad or something. Conversely, if you just wiped out an enemy squad, you'd have to stick around for a while and secure the area to make sure you don't get jumped by the reinforcements.

no sig for you!

Back to the plane... Good ol' DC had an AC130 as a mobile spawnpoint... But the best part behind that was it had to be flown by someone (rather than just automatically go through the map). This would also eliminate the potential for people to camp the drop points as the pilot of the aircraft could pick and choose where to venture.

On top of that, this could add some more things to worry about ie enemy planes shooting down the cargo transport or AA which could become more dense/powerful as you get further inland.

SO in terms of teamwork, you get a pile of things through this. SOmeone has to fly the plane to a decent spot. A small handful of people have to act as an entourage, and then all the people have to get down to the ground. I suppose the cargo transport could act as a resupply actor as well... But that would be for other people to determine.

Anywho, a pilot flown spawnpoint could be the solution to realism here. Hell, have people and a few humvees parachute out. Or use an AC130 Spectre to help clear the landing zone first.

I don't know, but there is a lot of potential here.

bf2142 has this feature and its flipping sweet..

its a squad leader upgrade. the sl can drop a "mobile drop point". so any1 in the squad and drop in on that point via a fast moving drop pod even if the sl is dead.

when u have to go destroy the titan, this beacon works wonders, all the sl has to do is get on the top of the titan, drop the beacon, and let his squad drop in on the top w/ instant access.... no more having to fly in and get shot down by arty, or drive up in an apc and get pwned by the titans guns. just instant in.

Without the trick of the eyes, we are blind.

It's not possible to set a paratrooper spawn in BF2's editor spawnpoint tweakings. There's the option, but it doesn't work.

I haven't heard how the other mods are gonna do it, but i think if you make the parachute into a vehicle and use the "enteronvehicle" option it might as well work... If the spawnpoint is right beside the parachute

Yes it can be done... you just set a spawn point above the ground. I know of many mods that do it already.
