Modifications are a regular part of the Battlefield Community. Hundreds of mappers, 3D artists and coders are involved in mods, they work day in, day out on a release of their project.
Most times modding doesn’t only cost time, it also costs money and a lot of sweat. Once a project is published, many gamers talk about “brilliant work” and download the files from the internet, but only play a few hours. The result of that; after a couple of days nearly all gamers stop playing the mod and the servers get abandoned. For this reason the German community, fansites, modifications from all over the globe and the German EA CommunityTeam got together and started the project "Play Mods – Play Different".
With the Event Modspot many Battlefield gamers should be advised and animated to play mods. On July 14th all gamers that own Battlefield2, will be invited to one of the servers, which will be provided by the community and fanpages. It isn’t about points, ranks or awards; it's about fun!
Also on the servers will be the representatives of the german communtiysites, such as BF-Games.net, Battlefield2.info or BF-News.de. The EA CommunityTeam will also fight, either with or against you. Maybe you will even see one of the guys who developed the mod you are playing!
The event wont be a one off, we hope to bring many more modifications to you the same way.

First Mod: Close Quarters Battle

The japanese modification Close Quarters Battle (CQB) is set in the land of the rising sun, where japanese special forces are fighting against a chinese terrorists organisation.
They hit together in well balanced, detailled maps with an high tense athmosphere, where you can really feel the land of the rising sun in each of the eight maps. But there is much more, the developers of Close Quarter Battle have added a new game mode.
Both teams have to destroy objects on the map East Fuji. Therefore they have C4 in their bags, but without teamwork it isn´t possible to win. The targets are in rooms behind closed doors, without covering the teammate its a high risk to flounce into a room. It is a new gaming experience to work in squads like SWAT teams, dividing the team into small squads who secures the doors while you surge ahead. Beside attacking with flashbangs and rifle fire you have to protect the player with the C4, because only one can carry the explosives to destroy enemys targets. No teamwork – no achievement. Everything in the mod is aimed at the infantry player.

The modding team developed enterable buildings, new skins for the players, policecars, vans, a scooter and the troopship Type-96 WAPC.
Also included are new sounds for vehicles and weapons.
The complete environment is made with a labor of love.

Despite the small 228MB file, the team have created a very good mod.
