Guys, when a new player comes, just answer his question and go on your merry way, instead of going berserk! It's THAT simple! I love this type of SL. Especially when I'm on the other side. Can't even remeber how many times I've wiped out entire squads with one click of the mouse because they stand so close together.

Its a little Harsh but, thats the way, to keep noobs in order ofcourse, some just join your squad for a sniper kit. those ones should be banned unless they ask....
So tell them your the squad leader, they should follow your orders or get kicked, i do that no-one leaves, and they shut up and fight properly. dont go too far though, its not real life. That works too. Quote:
also, Quote:
i prefer squads to be in order but most importantly, as i am usually playing as a Commander from now on, Squad leaders should be in order! so should commanders! and i hate it when you give orders to a squad and that squad's leader just says: "Potatoes! oops, um...what did you say last commander?" or "nah, just shut up im trying to squad lead!" but, you dont find many of that type in the servers like UKWF or TG (thats why TG and UKWF are so popular, and are my faviorate servers).

The ultimate squad leaders are always calm, considerate and open for friendly conversation out of combat. However, they are cool and methodical during combat. You don't have to be a fool, because shouting at your squad and calling them f*ggots is way out of order. Learn to treat your soldiers respect, and they will show you the respect during combat to allow you to make the decisions. hence squad leading.

I think this is exactly the type of SL that is needed more in PR. Some people wouldn't want it all the time though and I get that, because their idea of fun is different to me.
I play PR, and have fun doing it, when I'm taking it seriously and working very closely with my squad and team. Most of the time though I know this is not going to happen so as SL i am fairly relaxed, knowing that the habits instilled in people is so hard to change unless they want to. I have considered getting 5 regular players together and training together to play the game more seriously, but even with one good squad and the rest of the team with no idea still means that you can get owned. The 5 feet rule means that you should try and be that close, but you would actually be able to maintain it, but you will always be close enough. Without peripheral vision in game as Sl you don't know your guys aren't following you until your 200m away and you turn around and they are no where to be seen. The all get shot and die and your by yourself ready to attack a flag with no RP. Happens to me all the time...very annoying. The worst habits of PR players are; not following their SL, the whole squad looking in the direction of fire instead of watching the flanks and talking useless information into VOIP. The only thing I disagree with you idea of SLing is not allowing others to input ideas. Limiting your options to what 1 person can think is dangerous. I explain what i am going to do, and why, to the squad. Sometimes they can give me better ideas and sometimes not. But I'd always prefer to have 6 people thinking than just 1. |

___THE NUMBER 2,476th WAY OF LEADING A SQUAD___
1. HAVE A PLAN READY FOR YOUR SQUAD (each map has its own possibilities, attack, defend, recon, vehicles, ambush, search and destroy. Always have an agenda) 2. ENSURE YOU HAVE A PARTNER SQUAD TO ROLL ALONG WITH IF YOU'RE DOING SOMETHING THAT REQUIRES LOTS OF FIREPOWER. 3. INFORM THE SQUAD OF THE KITS THAT ARE REQUIRED AND THE ONES THAT ARE NOT. 4. TELL THEM THE PLAN OF ACTION YOU HAVE COME UP WITH (spawn locations, assets needed-if needed, grid locations of interest, etc) 5. INFORM THEM OF BASIC SQUAD WORK AND COMMUNICATION AND WHAT IS EXPECTED OF THEM. 6. WARN THEM THAT ANYONE WHO REPEATEDLY FAILS THE SQUAD WILL BE KICKED. 7. WISH THEM LUCK AND HAVE FUN that sums it up for me, it does not always fall this way but it always has the same feel. This has led my squads to many many first places and rounds won. |

Project Reality is a game, and although it is meant to be played with a greater semblance to realism than other games, it should not be thought of as anything different. The best squad leaders, in my experience, are the ones who are friendly, talkative, open to suggestions, but still collected and coordinated in combat. Quote:
If you're all less than 5 meters from eachother, one HEAT round from an APC or tank will kill everyone in the squad. Your rules are too uniform for situations that require different approaches. I like the fact that you want to take a strong position on squad leading, but your method isn't adaptable enough. It has to be open to modification on-the-go.

When I squad lead I hope i never come off like this. I want to be liked by my squad and at the same time lead an effective team, if people are leaving because I'm an ass, to me its just as bad as them leaving because its a fail squad. If one of my squadmembers has an idea and it turns out its better than my orginal one, I am definetly going to use it because an effective plan too me is better than a super disciplined squad.
Like others have said most play this game to have fun and a lot of my fun isn't in the actual game itself but my squadmembers and teammates, so if my squad can laugh and do their jobs without being continuosly yelled at like they don't have a brain, then they are free to do so. If I have a squadmember that doesn't know his role or exactly what to do I try to guide him through it not yell until he quits, or I kick him. |
