1. Use VOIP! A silent commander is a bad commander! There is no way you can type the information fast enough for your squads to be aware.

2. Do not use assault vehicles as you are too valuable to spend time piloting or driving when you could be directing squads and using the commander abilities.

3. You should try to avoid being engaged in direct combat or even near the frontlines. Everything you can do, you can do with your command console from base.
Quoted for emphasis in the hopes a certain unnamed commander on DVB gets the hint.

Added; Do not drive your commanders truck directly into a battle, it's not a tank. Alternatively, do not park your commanders vehicle (see spawnpoint) out of bounds. This commander killed several of his team last night after they spawned on the vehicle (at his command to build assets) and were unable to get back to safety before dying, at best bleeding out severely.

When I wrote that it was for version 5.0, never really thought about it then, but should have realized it would change with each version. If it could be edited to lose the 5.0, I would most certainly go back to adding to it (as well as the squad leader one I did).

Thanks for posting it Fuzz, I wish more commanders would read it.

A tactic often unpopular with squads but HIGHLY effective at turning around a game;

If your team is behind on tickets and not making any progress capping flags, and assuming the enemy don't have a bleed on you, fall back. Have EVERY squad and player pull back to a single, easily defendable flag and dig in; turn that place into a fortress of death. Defending costs far fewer tickets than attacking, and you can easily start getting 3-4:1 KDRs from your troops at a well defended flag. With that sort of ratio, the enemy's lead of tickets will soon disappear and as they cannot advance without that flag, they have no choice but to either attack, throwing wave after wave of men onto your defences or sit and wait out the timer, keeping the tickets static until time runs out, which they won't do.

There are some SL's out there who will resist this as much as possible, stubbornly believing that their fruitless attacks on a well defended enemy position are more likely to win the game than your defence, but you can't let them change your tactics; if you can lock down a flag that is a tactical pinch point and defend it well, you will win. A Bunker at the defended flag is an absolute must.

Once the tickets are evened out, you can either go on the offensive again or continue to dig in and let them waste all their tickets in attacking.

Personally I disagree with this one. I tend to get stuck in with the squads, assisting the attacks and defence. That way I can see for myself the situation on the ground, and assist myself in the operation. I don't charge in wildly (often), but I do pull my weight in combat.

The com will get less important with the next release, coz many things dont require a com anymore.

But for the moment, even the best SL needs a com, even if he doesnt have VOIP he can still grant build orders or drive a com truck around. So basicly, a not so good com is still better than no com at all.

Rommel was a great Commander. He was one of the new extinct breed of gentleman soldier, who treated his enemy as the brother they were. You may be on opposite sides and trying to kill each other, but it's nothing personal; you share membership in the brotherhood of the military. Krieg ohne Hass.

Sure his tactics had flaws, but he's not a bad person to model your command on
