-I think you're confusing flying low with landing. I land where I want to when I want to, efficiently and safely.

-That will most likely get you and your passengers killed as things don't respond as they should in BF2 and just the speed you get up to in a steep dive and the way any chopper behaves when you try to decelerate makes it extremely hard to land, not to mention the fact that doing so increases the chance of a lag spike which will surely doom the helo. A slow, controlled descent until you reach your target is the best way to do it, attempting to do some l33t maneuver will just lose you an asset and the lives of your passengers.

I was never really any good at flying in BF2 but decided to give it a go in PR as it seems like a fun roll. I got a hold of the training mod and have been practising my flying skills with some of the transport choppers.

I can now take off easy and fly pretty well although I've not had much air time in real games with enemy fire. One thing I can't master is the art of landing.
Even when I know a flat piece of land with no obstructions I can't land a Helo on it without sustaining damage or flipping 9 times out of 10 and the one time I can land it I usually have to hover for 20 or so seconds before it hits the ground(Not very useful if I start to come under fire)

Can you guys offer any tips? At what altitude should I start coming down at and what kind of speed and also what distance should I start my decent. Basicly everything that you could tell me would be helpful :P

(I use the mouse+keyboard to fly btw)
If you can get the chopper level (and close to the ground) just tap S with enough frequency that you don't "stall the engine".

I die a little on the inside everytime I read someone misuse the word "hardcoded".

You know, really, after reading and thinking about my own experiences practising with the choppers, you can't tell people what to do, not much. Its all about learning from your own mistakes. For real aircraft you're in schools for months before you get a real crack at it.

In BF2 you can crash dozens of times and be fine cause you learn from every mistake. So crash 50 times and ask yourself why you did it.

For mouse control of a Huey I prefer 8.5 3 3 or 4 4.

good to see a fellow chopper pilot who can do the dive landing. These are the only way to survive in a hot LZ....

The trick is to let the craft naturally pull its nose up as you come near the ground, and tap s. You'll be suprised how much velocity you'll lose just by tapping s, and how the helicopter will right itself on its own.

Also don't be afraid to hit the ground with a lot of horizontal speed, the wheels and sleds dont take damage from sliding. My personal best landing speed is 880kph in a black hawk.

I don't go for the vertical dive, but the skimming one really isn't that hard.
