Evasive Maneuvers in Jets
Well today I had a pretty good first run in an F-16 (13 kills in 5 minutes) but unfortunatly I got shot down when I flew over South village in kashan.
Now I was wondering if anyone knows any good evasive menuvers because I haven't ever trained for dodging missiles. |

Well, once you are locked you have few options. The best option is flares. Once you get the lock signal dispense 5-10 flares, usually that does that trick, but in certain occasions where the AA gunner is experienced you must either: run, or engage evasive manuvers. My personal favorite is to roll while dispensig flares. This creates a ring around you wiht flares which can distract an AA gun for 10 seconds or so. My other favorite is to fly level, dispense flares and dive down at a 15 degree angle. This makes you in the line of flares which confuses the AA gun. Obviously these arent the only techniques but they do work, and as you gain experience you will learn the different tricks to evade missile lock.

Not to keen on Jet flying but for helicopters, try to hug the terrain (expert pilots should know this from ArmA). But remember Safety First, if theres a threat, do what-ever it takes to shake it off.

Well, I haven't played PR - yet... But I should say that try and climb our of reach of the lock and deploy flares at the same time, also try tight turns and looping to shake missile's off you and then hightail it out of the area.
Thats all I can give you know, when I get the corrupt file problem sorted I'll give you some more help. Cheers Xavo |

Looping is rather slow in PR - maybe 2/3 as fast as in real life - and I think there's a chance that a ground-to-air AA missile could hit/graze the cockpit and severely injure the pilot.
Don't take my word for it - looping is a good strategy in theory, but we would have to test the details before recommending it. It sure is slower than just rolling and gaining altitude. One other thing: beyond a certain altitude, ground-to-air AA is useless. Gain altitude, roll, and pop flares if it's on the ground. If it's in the air, do the same, then come back down and fly over a place where you know there's friendly AA, all without giving the enemy a tantalizing shot. Tough, I know, but it gives your teammates something to shoot at and gives you a certain amount of safety. |

the best way to learn this maneuvers is trying to shoot jets down.
besides, the engine behind it is still the same as for vbf2.. |

ly very high when going for a target... dive down... do a very large loop but slightly to the left or right.
or you can do a loop the wrong way...for example if your high enough instead of pulling back on the jostick push forward. |

In a jet, dive with your flares to try to lose the lock, IF you get a sustained lock and suspect that missiles have been fired then swing a descending hard turn, which can cause the missile to misjudge your range/speed/bearing and miss.
I succesfully dodged a ground to air missile today on Kashan while in a Cobra by putting the nose down and turning sharply, actually saw the thing whizz over the canopy! |
