Mini LMG guide

The most important task of the light machine gunner is to stress out the enemy with suppressing fire, NOT to kill. I see a lot of people staying on the exact same place, looking for a kill (using the lmg as some kinda "sniper rifle) , wich is not the main task of the LMG gunner. The LMG gunner should always stay close to his squad, to provide suppressing fire during a attack and more importantly, during a retreat! During a retreat the LMG gunner covers the back of his teammates, by suppressing the enemy with short burst of his machinegun. Don't stay around for too long, but keep moving untill you and yur team are safe. Here are the most important things to keep in mind when your playing as LMG.

1. Don't use the LMG kit just for the high fire rate. I know it's fun to mow down entire squads with the LMG, but helping your team to move to a location safely while you provide covering fire is more important than just getting a few extra kills

2. Don't stay at the same location, but keep moving. Go to prone, fire some rounds at the enemy and move on. The LMG isn't exactly a discreet gun, so the enemy will immediatly see where the firing comes from.

3. Don't waste your ammo on just 1 guy you see running in the distance, the LMG isn't a very accurate gun on long distances

4. As said before, the LMG gunnner is a supportive role, so use it that way. When you see a squadmember getting injured or killed, suppress the enemy so your medic can do his thing safely

A good LMG gunner is an invaluable asset for his team, a "lone wolf" LMG gunner is just a waste of the LMG kit

Some good things to know. When someone grabs the kit, they usually aim to kill, leading to moving to the enemies' position with the gun at their hip. Sure, a dead guy beats a suppressed guy, as long as the LMG soldier is not the dead guy.

I have to respectfully disagree with 3. That LMG is sniper rifle accurate at any range after the deviation has settled. I've tried it in PR SP with the M249 SAW, and it mowed bots down at ridiculously long ranges.

You may also want to add:

5. The gun has high recoil if used unscoped. Don't count on success with shooting from the hip, you'll be seeing the sky in no time.

One thing to note is that for an LMG to be at its most effective requires constant fire orders from the SL, preferably with the aide of markers. Managing the LMG should be distinct to a certain degree from the rest of the rifles.

It can be confusing being the only guy without a scope but with everyone depending on you. In effect the LMG is one of the most dependent on teamplay to do his job.

Whenever I get the chance I get the auto. kit, and I try to use it as it is used IRL. My fragrate will show you that I'm either really bad at hitting people or I use it mainly for suppressive fire.

When going prone with the gun, you actually have one of the most accurate weapons for short to long range, that's the feeling I have for sure!

Unfortunately not many SLs have a clue when it comes to having this kit in their squad, and I use a lot of time switching to my binos to try and spot enemies, because nobody is doing that for me. So instead of suppressing the bad guys while my squad moves, I'm looking through the binos!

With the new suppression effect this is a great kit to play! Good work DEV and good mini-guide!

Steen

Good guide, but the gun is like a sniper rifle and that combined with awsome rate of fire have saved me lots of times.

Agreed, I just took out a complete 6-man US squad last night. They must have been 500-600 yards out. I was in an elevated position, they were all out in the open, a stupid thing really.

I'm prone and fire off short controlled bursts!

I think one of them had the marksman kit, and I almost got killed, but I took them all out. I wasn't playing Rambo, just covering my squad's rear! It was all over before the rest of the squad arrived on my position, but luckily they saved me from bleeding to death!

Indeed. Irl, the AR kit is used to engage hostiles at distances beyond those at which regular riflemen are useful, something you can also do ig to great effect.

Do you have a super handsome mate? (hugs and kisses KP)

I like to find a spot a little bit away from my squad mates, but still in a line of sight of the area that they are assaulting. I then lay down some covering fire which suppresses them, it also draws their attention to me instead of the squad which is good for them in the long run.

The LMG kit can be an awesome weapon, I agree. It's pretty much capable of killing infantry at any range, but there are two things it lacks: rotation speed and awareness. Think of how many times you've used the Rifleman's scope to double-check a target, or just even to scan the area. The LMG, unfortunately, lacks such a scope, and since a death machine is only effective when it knows where its targets are at, this reduces its individual effectiveness. Furthermore, it's practically stationary. It's nearly impossible to turn more than 30 or 45 degrees within a reasonable amount of time when you're zoomed in, whereas Riflemen can turn 90 degrees back and forth to engage possible flanking formations with relative ease.

Thus, we come to the conclusion that the LMG is a relatively short-sighted weapon with a limited cone of effect. If there's an enemy infantry within the LMG user's cone of effect, and the LMGer is aware of it, then the infantry will die very shortly. This makes the LMG, in my opinion, one of the most team-oriented weapons of the game it has many possible uses, but as stated above, it's MOST effective when used with the aid of lots of teamwork!

LMG at the crowded "Street" map was a killer. Nice guide, are DEVS implementing optics attached to LMG-kit in later releases? Sorry if it had been posted before.
