7.62x51mm recoil, the G3, and how MEC can do room-to-room better.
Answer is simple: Crewman.
Sure, it might be a bit cheesy, but it works. The tiny recoil from the 9mm, even on full auto, makes it generally more useful than the G3, though the G3 isn't so bad in numbers. I tried it on Kashan, and it's very useful in the bunkers, and in the villages. |

But its still a small round, Id have to worry about hitting them enough times to kill them. Other than that its a sound idea. Nope, when you get out of the bunker, you're in trouble cause you have no range. Though you should have like 3 other guys with rifles with you from your squad

Oh ye, its not a 9mm, its a 5.56 just as the USMC and Brits use in their M16s/L85. The actual gun isn't an MP5, its in-fact a HK53 (Compact HK33).
I have not yet tried using it on 0.75 but I heard it kicks ass. |

No, the crewman gets the 9mm MP5N. The HK53A3 looks different, and sounds different.

I thought crewmen got just a pistol? Or did .75 give them some more firepower?

Another class - besides Spec Ops - needs one of these SMGs as a primary weapon. Maybe we could modify the iron sights rifleman class?
Whatever the solution, we can't have crewmen running around the map when they could be in a vehicle, doing their jobs. |

The idea with rifleman ironsights having the MP5 isnt even that bad. Then the MEC would have one class that sucks at range but is useful in CQB, and another class being almost a marksman but bad at CQB. Since the MEC is fictional and the G3A3 ironsights would still stay in the game for the other classes, i think it wouldnt be that bad. Or maybe give it to the engineer. Shotgun and MP5. Door breaching and room clearing / self defence.
However, i just love the MP5's handling. It may not be powerful, but you can empty a mag into someones chest in a few seconds, thats lethal enough. |

A couple of us had originally suggested that the MEC drop their Spec Ops (back when it was spawnable) for the "Pointman" kit with HK53A3 instead of G3.

But the HK53 would be a bit uber i think. Then they have a med renge rifle and a long range rifle. I mean, we know that the MP5 works well in CQB and but is really useless at range. The more i think about it, Engineer with MP5 would really make sense as door breacher and room clearer. If the engineer is not going to fight, the MP5 still is good for self defence.
Or maybe i'm just in love with the recoil and handling of that thing :P |
