This is a discussion on the tactical paradigm of two opposing views. I couldn't fit it in either of the above tactical sub-forums so I will just post for here until moved by a moderator if deemed necessary.
Pretend your playing on Kashan with a full team. Your the commander and each player cooperates with your decisions fully. You have whatever assets you need that are available to you and you can use them as you need. So do you deploy your forces with your assets solely for supporting your infantry? Or do you use your heavier assets such as tanks as your spearhead while the infantry move in to support the tanks? I have heard that all assets are there for your infantry and only to support infantry. But then you have the perspective of keeping your heavy assets alive at all costs and the infantry are expendable. |

Situation, terrain, enemy strength and activity all come into play, along with your own forces abilities, numbers, and how well you have trained them and if they actualy use that training in game. (why i love wailing on you civies out there, lol)

Everyone should first focus on taking out enemy infantry. After that, armors. Hopefully CAS will be taking care of the airplanes too.
Infantry is the most manuverable element in the ground... even on Kashan. With a BH of course... |

i use tanks, helos and jets as support for infanty because a well equiped squad with the right skills can do almost anything, but they will come to the point where they need some help and thats where heavy units come into play

If you could ive us a more precise picture of the situation, then we could also give you a more precisely answer. Good question btw - it raises a lot of questions. Thx! | |

Generally your infantry are what require support the most, because they are your capping power in AAS
However this is balanced against risk to the armour/other assets. in CnC or INS I generally prefer whole team formations so that everyone is supporting everyone else. |

If anyhow possible I would use the inf to assist the armored and winged units.
And the armor to hold ground until the air force can fulfill their job. And that would be air vs. air until you gain air superiority. Then taking out enemy armor from the sky with inf support. Next moving in the armor with inf support to secure the flag areas. Finally moving in the inf to capture. At the same time 1 or 2 smaller inf units could do some behind-the-lines stuff or some air-assisted quick insertion to flags in order to keep the enemy away until the team has control other the assets. |

I use the assets to kill everything and infantry to cap the flags after everything has been killed. Worked wonders last PRT battle. :P

Yes, it is vague. That I because in PR you have many different maps and objectives. So I was hoping for a general guideline based on experiences on what seems to work. Here are some scenarios:
large open map with full array of assets (kashan) cqb map with medium asset support against a unconventional asset force, insurgency (ramiel) coastal city with one side focused on ground assets versus a mobile concentrated side (muttrah/Jabal) I'll put in some thinking of my own, but I have relatively small commanding experience but do read a lot on it. Take a map such as Operation Archr for instance on U.S. Side. You have very rough and limited terrain an your orces can very easily be cut off an wipe out. Look at your objectives: preserve tour tickets eliminate enemy caches that are your two core objectives in this game. Everything else is map based (revealed cache location) and what you think will help you accomplish your mission (hold the castle for recon). So here it is: you start off the map. Two things to know is that the enemy insurgets love to rush into your base (public gaming) and that you do not know where an objective cache is, but do know one will be revealed no matter what. The only practical obj at this moment is to preserve your tickets. So get your air assets warmed up, set up defenses at your main base, and wait. Also know that since you do not have heavy assets such as tanks on this map, that infantry are your main firepower also due to limited light assets. So infantry are your main priority. While waiting, what you could do is recon. I believe recon is your main force here when it comes to insurgency. Not only intelligence in the form that reveals caches but also intelligence that shows where the enemy and the cache is. I believe that using a special forces team focused on stealth and recon with air assets performing recon is your main force. Your infantry should be defending the base until you have a confirmed location. Although they can take castle to hold, that is an important high ground. If they take any other high ground, I believe insurgents have a high chance of finding them and it will be very easy to get bogged down and unable to move out quickly in one massive force against the revealed cache location quickly. So, main force: recon and infantry. Assets support them both here. Keep infantry together at all costs and defend your precious assets at main unt you have a confirmed cache and can make a plan that involves fob set up and raiding in it. |
