Wouldn't the RPK-74M match up with the other factions support weapons better than the PKM?

Perhaps - But the QBB-85 is not belt fed, it has a large capacity drum (as are available for the RPK-74). Also note that the Minimi and it's variants can be belt fed or magazine fed.
The PKM is more of a GPMG like the FN MAG/M240/L7 or MG3, in a full rifle caliber. All the other factions have a support weapon in the same caliber as their main rifles (which is why the MEC have the 7.62mm HK21 - also note that it is very much based on the G3). It suppose it depends on whether you see the support kit as squad weapon or a platoon level asset. Donatello's response was, I believe, because I started a thread on this which was deleted. I thought that it was deleted as GeZe didn't want threads polluting the forum - I thought perhaps this thread would be an acceptable place for debate. Apologies if not. |

Geze stated many times that the PKM will be the Support weapon, he has his reasons and I am too lazy to search for them.

From searching this forum, the only post I can find on the matter is the one on page 1 of this thread where he states:
Quote:

PKM is support weapon.
Why? I asked people in who have direct access to people in the Russian Armed Forces, and they told me that the PKM was used much more often and got much more use then the RPK. |

Well, you can't say fairer than that.
I wonder if giving the ammo rifleman an RPK with 45 round mag would be over powering. From experience ammo riflemen are generally ignored. |
