It's posted elswhere but whatever,

Canada uses varients of American Assault rifles, the C7 is similar (though superior) to the M16, the C8 is like the M4, etc.
Canada uses German Leopard tanks, German G-Wagen light vehicles, South African Nyala MRAPs, American F-18s, Canadian/American LAV3s, British submarines, American Griffon Helicopters and various other equipment.

Often equipment was designed elsewhere and manufactured locally as in the case of the guns and LAV3s.

Ongoing PR Projects:
Canadian Forces RG-31 Nyala Armored Patrol Vehicle - Status: Importing
Topographical minimaps - Status: Restarted![7/18]

It sounds like they took the best that was on the market regardless of where it was made or whose constituency made the most from it.

If only we could do the same.

BTW what makes the C7 better than the M16 ?

It looks cooler, can go full auto an it's probably tougher becasue it has to deal with the Canadian weather.

Other than featuring full auto it has reletively minor changes.

A better barrel and some minor mounting and sighting differences.

So from reading the Wikki it would seem that the C series is just a little bit better, probably because only 10 people had to approve the design in Canada rather than the 1,500 people who had a say in the US.

According the C7 Wiki and the M16 Wiki the C7 Wiki has a few notice-able differences.

M16:
Weight 8.5 lb (3.9 kg) loaded
Length 1,006 mm (39.5 in)
Barrel length 508 mm (20 in)
Cartridge 5.56 x 45 mm NATO, .223 Remington
Action Gas-operated, rotating bolt
Rate of fire 750 to 900 round/min, cyclic
Muzzle velocity 975 m/s (3,200 ft/s), 930 m/s (3,050 ft/s) (see Variants)
Effective range 550 m (600 yd)
Feed system Various STANAG Magazines.

C7

Length 1,006 mm (39.5 in)
Barrel length 50 cm (20 in)
Cartridge 5.56 x 45 mm NATO, .223 Remington
Action Gas-operated, rotating bolt
Rate of fire 700-800 rpm (cyclic)
Muzzle velocity 925m/s
Effective range 550 m (effective)
Feed system Various STANAG Magazines.

With a shorter barrel length the effective range is about the same, Its ligther, fully automatic capable, same ammunition. Has more "upgrade" rails, fires at a much more consistant rpm (rounds per minute) and is more versatile.

I would choose the C7 over the M16 anyday.
