How to properly HAT snipe
The title is intended to provoke. I am not going to tell you how to HAT snipe, but rather ask you if one should.
Imagine with me that I was playing on Kyong Ni(sp) this weekend on the USMC side. Imagine that I spawned into the game near its conclusion and oddly the Chinese were all over the Airdrop but my team was way ahead in tickets. Anyway, imagine with me that I noticed that the squad I joined had a SL, HAT, Marksman and Rifleman. Logically, I chose Medic and spawned at the only available point, the main base. The SL quickly told me to get a HAT kit, which I did. He then told me to head up the hill from the USMC main to the command post which had been placed way up on the ridge above. There was the other HAT and three command trucks lined up with supply crates behind them. The SL was on the other side of the river marking targets for the HAT, who from that distance couldn't even see the enemy through the haze. Imagine that in about 5 minutes I had 10 kills and the number was climbing. Of course this did not really happen but imagine that it did. I often hear in-game complaints about HAT sniping and how each round costs umpteen thousand dollars and that one would never use them on troops. Is HAT sniping grounds for kicking? Is this too different than using a jdam on a flag that just turned gray because an infantry squad moved in with a humvee? A jdam certainly costs more than a HAT round. Perhaps HAT sniping the south village on Kashan is actually saving the tax payers money over using one jdam. What are your thoughts? BTW - The ridge south of south village is ideal for HAT sniping, or so I have heard. |

Re: How to properly HAT snipe
Javelins are used IRL against infantry positions, I see no problem with it in game. Annoying as hell yea, but realistic.

i would say not a problem either. my point being that a) it's not unrealistic and b) snipers are annoying as well and i endorse killing them with a HAT

Re: How to properly HAT snipe
i dont know how real armys would handle it. atm theres no war such as postulated between a "MEC" and american forces. i think it would be seized onto the effort. cause the taxpayer (guessing) wants that the battle is going to be won.
thinking of an engineer or spec op running on a friendly firebase who could only be stopped by your hat cause your rifleman doesnt hit him, i would do it. also, hat would be wasted on "valued" targets only, if the ammosupply would be somehow restricted (reloading only on compost f.e) |

I've sinned in the past myself...Russian server with no rules at all basically, 7 Gates, PLA team, River Fort, with a bunker that stayed up for the entire match on the east side. 23/1, 3or 4 apcs and 2 commander trucks.

Dunehunter,
hahahahahahahahahaha... You summed up my sentiments exactly. One feels naughty while HAT sniping but has an overwhelming sense of joy at the same time. It is a temptation that is very hard to say no to. |

Re: How to properly HAT snipe
Since they tend to be used against one insurgent and his dog in current conflicts, its not unrealisitc to use them on infantry, even if its a small group. The question is, should it be allowed/encouraged ingame?
Some points for consideration: 1. There are only 2 HAT kits, on 5 minute timers. 2. They're reasonably cumbersome to use, although the ability to lie down, settle, pop up and fire negates this to a certain extent, you stil can't WASD move and fire. 3. You only get 2 shots (Should be one imho, get a rifleman!) 4. If you're shooting at inf, you can't be taking out armour. 5. Shooting at inf gives away your position in return for the death of a comparitvely low-value target. 6. Where do you stop with the rules? A transport valuable enough? What if its not loaded? Why aren't there similar questions with chopper missiles? etc etc. On the otherhand: 1. Some people see it as bad for gameplay, and argue that it breaks up infantry combet 2. A ready ammo supply such as a FB makes it spam central. 3. Jack in a box xhooting makes it difficult to counter with either accurate rifle fire aimed at killing, or though suppression with MGs/rapid fire from rifles. Those are the main issues I can think of surrounding the point. |

Re: How to properly HAT snipe
Its ok to shot the hat at a sniper pinning you down from a building or something like that but not on normal soldiers just running around trying to have a good fight...
