The plain and simple fact is they never put enough RAM in the things. I mean i have heard of so many games companies complainign when they tryed to port PC games to X-box about the lack of ram.
I know they dont need asmuch to do a simlar job as a PC BUT in 2 years time the average PC RAm will be 2GB and high end will be 4GB WHILE yee oldy 360 and PS3 will be chugging along with 512 total!!! Absolute plonkers, RAM Is cheap as chips - they could either add another 512 OR offer an upgrade for like 60 squid in about 3 years. WIth games running on the up-RAm, featuring all round better FPS/graphics and such. PC games are made to run on 1000's of different types of systems, i am sure they could do 2 for console. I am sure an extra 1GB of ram in 3 years time would please all Console developers - JSUT NEED MAKE CONSOLES that can be upgraded simply - cant be that HARD IF they put there mind to it and a couple of millions of pounds!??? |

There's a technology phenomenum known as 'the Memory Wall'. In short, it's the phenomenum we experience where CPU speeds enhance at a much greater rate than memory speeds. This creates a bottleneck in computer performance, the memory latency being the problem (in simple terms, the slow clock speed of the RAM can negate the speed of your super fast machine). The fact that the PS3 and XBox 360 both invest much more heavily in high-speed RAM than in quantity will really show a major difference when running games that require a lot complicated mathematics (principally: anything 3D, physics, destructive environments, you name it). 256MB of the PS3's RAM (which is XDR DRAM, not just your normal PC DDR or DDR2) is clocked at 3.2GHz. That's not normal RAM, don't treat it as such. Don't try and think of it like you would think of PC RAM. The other 256MB is clocked at 700MHz, and is a type of RAM (GDDR3) designed specifically to deal with graphics. Again, not to be confused with normal PC RAM. The XBox 360 has 512MB GDDR3 RAM, and nothing else. Again, that will outperform (for graphics related operations, spefically) equivalent 512MB of standard PC RAM types, and much higher than that in practice due to the memory-frequency bottleneck (memory wall).

Ill buy one for sure. Only games that i think play good on pcs are shooters, all other games are more enjoyable on a PS2 or xbox with a few mates. You can also hit the person u are mad at in multiplayer with a console bcos they usually in teh same room....which is a great feuture IMO.

And I totally agree with Callum. It's great having a couple of the lads round with the multitap playing some Tekken or Gran Turismo. Sure beats bring round your PCs for a LAN game of some hardcore FPS!

![]() [KTA] is currently recruiting! Steven Colbert, when asked on his show what his Iq was replied with a very straight-forward answer, it was, " I know what my IQ is, I got an A, 95!"

I saw a site speculating about it being on PC and PSP, but it's not been confirmed at all. It's console only, just like BF2:MC.
I'm pretty sure it's gonna be a pretty well rounded game. We'll see. |
