Sounds like a personal problem really. My character imported.

in My Documents/BioWare/Mass Effect 2/Saves
There should be a folder called CharacterName_Level_Class_DateYouLastSaved

And then your save file is in there.
If it doesn't work, change it so it looks like this: karambaitos_21_soldier_101010

That will make the game think you last played on the 10th of October 2010 and it should work importing it.

nope, needed to point the gamersetting.ini to the mass effect save folder
also what you explained had nothing to do with the error
since the imports were showing up in game, it just wouldnt let me import when i pressed the button, either way fixed now alls good, YAY for incredibly bad 2d stuff in 2012
