Default Sins of a solar empire

I've been playing SOASE for a few years, a really nice single player experience for when I'm not in the mood to be sociable and a hardcore multiplayer experience and a great comp stomp game.

But now I've found this

[MOD WIP] Star Trek: Sacrifice of Angels 2 UPDATED 2/15/2010 ยป Forum Post by SoA2Team

the best star trek mod I've seen to date, they really hit it on the nose so far, I cannot wait to see what they bring out for the lastest booster pack, its gonna be epic.

I enjoyed their homeworld mod as well (same team afaik) but I prefer SOASE gameplay.

http://img687.imageshack.us/img687/3...eenshot2is.jpg

the mod is very well designed and keeps to the franchise well while still bringing alot of great uniqueness to each team and different strategies, this isn't just SOASE with differnet models, its like a whole new game. To those of you who played and love Star Trek Armada 1/2 I tell you that game was great, this game is better (much less static, and the research tree does bring alot)

I've only ever tried graphical mods before this, but this is an excellent mod for a fun game.

the mod is ofc WIP, but its perfectly playable atm, I'm enjoying fighting the Dominion in a huge galaxy atm, jesus its hard because they are based around big carrier fleets supported by their little fighter ships and more robust cardassian crusiers.

I've been a die hard trek fan since I was 5 years old, and I tell you that if you are the same, this is the mod for you if you like Space RTS.

Live Long and Prosper!

Star Trek Enterprise deserved 7 series!!!

Please do share if you a lover of SOASE or any of its mods!

I do love Sins as well, especially since I picked up the first mini-expansion pack, which greatly boosted the player's ability to defend his space. I only get to play infrequently, what with my other gaming obligations (PR, Civilization IV, whatever new game strikes my fancy, whatever classic SNES game I'm currently feeling nostalgic for - I think Secret of Mana is next), but I do find myself engrossed for days on end.

I'm only just learning to play the game with any real skill, micromanaging my ships and their abilities and so forth. The one thing that has always irked me, however, was the planets. There just doesn't seem to be too much to do with them besides colonize, queue up the same improvements that you build on every planet, and then keep your ships marching along. I feel that something could be done to make developing planets more involving, but perhaps the Devs wanted the focus to be on the combat. Coming from a background in Civilization, that's a little foreign to me.

I think I saw a while back that a Freespace 2 mod was being developed. If that ever gets done, it would be the best thing that could happen outside of Volition coming back and making Freespace 3.

still, I've heard some pretty awesome things about SOASE. Just never got around to playing it...

University students never really have time for all this cool stuff...

I don't like it. Bad combination of RTS and TBS elements of space games. I do not like the combat system in there(the RTS side), so i instead play Homeworld 2. But neither i do not like the empire managing system(the TBS side) so i go for Galactic Civilizations.

Qaiex: My solution was to not have twitter. You should try it. Feels good, and I don't miss any information that was worth hearing in the first place, since nothing on twitter ever is.

SOASE has no turn based elements

one thing i don't like about the game is multiplayer goes by too fast and you never really get a chance to full experience everything like it singleplayer. I think ill look into this mod .

pepsi and cigarettes
Breakfast of champions

All i know is my gut says maybe

I think i randomly downloaded a demo for this somewhere :P, was quite good tbh, although only having the demo made it short lived :P and i was confused by a lot of it, randomly building stuff and found somehow I'd already built the best unit in the game and was able to kill all the enemies (on easy ^^). But i guess theres more tactics than what i entailed :P

Default Sins of a Solar Empire (PC Game)

Hey guys,

I'd never heard of this game until a couple of weeks ago when 2 friends of mine are really pushing me to play it. I'm aware that it's not "C&C in space" or on the scope of Company of Heroes etc...

Whilst I'm not "majorly" into space (for instance, I don't like/watch Star Wars & Trek, Stargate, etcetc), I don't mind space games - Freelancer is a game I champion, I liked EVE (and would probably still be playing it if it wasn't so complex), and even enjoyed Earth & Beyond when that was around briefly.

So really it's just a general concensus I'm after of whether or not SoaSE is regarded as a 'good game', as these 2 mates of mine want to play multiplayer.

Can you play together as a group against the PCs, or is it always player vs. player?

I've borrowed a copy of the game and have completed the tutorials but not done a match yet; the tutorials didn't cover too much if I'm honest.

Its a excellent game, as far as I remember it didn't have a campaign but it had tutorials and skirmish vs the AI to practice.
Its a game that matches last allot of time

There's a diplomatic system so you should be able to play against bots if you want. Not sure, never played coop with other people.

Keep in mind this is a huge game, you can have maps with hundreds of different planets, if you do play multi, make sure you play something small, because you can sink literally days into a match.

The game itself is great, complex yet simple, and I know that sounds utterly useless, but the game is streamlined for easy management of your vast empire, while at the same time maintaining a level of detail and complexity to keep you from getting bored. There is always something to do, be it tending your planetary industry, colonizing, exploring or engaging in battle, often times, all at the same time. The AI of your ships is decent, so they can fight without you having to nursemaid them.

Make sure you play through all the tutorials and play a few single player games so you get the feel of it. While the game is streamlined, the sheer size adds heavily to the complexity, odds are you'll miss a few things before you get it. For example, I didn't know special energy was consumed while warping between planets until my third single player game, and I play on huge galaxy's.
