Actually, Wraith managed to lock it all by himself. Give the guy some credit.
I'd go into the XM8 thing, but you guys wouldn't believe me. |

I thought the XM-8 was cancelled because Colt kicked up a fuss?
As to the locking thing you know what I meant. |

It was, Colt decided they weren't happy that they were losing out on perhaps the biggest contract they'd ever get to Heckler und Koch when America had already agreed that all new weapons would go through trials first. They moaned that HK shouldn't be allowed to manufacter the new weapons until they won the contract, so the US Army decided to halt the program until they come up with a new program to fairly decide who gets the new contract. To this date, nothing has come of it, but should they open up the contest again, the XM8 will most likely compete, or at least something similar by HK looking to get in on that massive contract.

There is actually a bill or something somewhere that states that American arms producers must be given a shot at competing for US miliatry arms bids. When the OICW program was running, no American arms producer had a weapon in contention. The government scrapped the XM-8 due to cost versus need. It has been decided that the XM-8's minor functionality improvements did not justify the hefty price tag that foreign manufacturers wanted to charge.
In speculation...I am sure Colt is working on something that is more reasonably priced to offer the DOD. |

I thought it looked like a cross between the G36 and a fish.

Personally I think the G36 is the best weapon out there right now. But it really isn't that much more effective than an M-16, it is just lighter, more reliable, and easier to maintain. As far as actually shooting goes...not much better if at all.

The only new assault rifle that colt has come up with is the M5 which is, basically, a rip-off of the HK416. | |

The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.
