The problem with laser sights is that they make soldiers lasy and remove the need for propper marksmanship skills. Hense very few (if any) militaries issue them.

As for the next gen assault rifle? Its already been made, its called the H&K G11K2.

(But a caseless ambidextiofied L85 would be nice)

Yeah but the G11 is not going to be made. I do like the FN SCAR though espically the Heavy varient finally 7.62 MM rounds.

TAR-21 is old news and the Tavor is basically the same rifle. It will be a few years before caseless ammo is accepted and mass produced. Does anyone have a photo of the HK 416? Don't think I have seen that one.

OICW is on hold. The at least one of the most recent products of the OICW project, the XM8, has been all but scrapped. The other 2 components, the XM25 and the XM104 I have no idea what they're doing, but they're probubly on hold too. The XM-29 which combines the XM8, XM25 and XM104 into one huge, bulky and heavy package has been put back to the drawing board until technology improves enough to allow the components to be unified without the problems the original had.

Currently we are waiting for the new joint services requirements to come out. Which will probubly be along the lines of "the Marines have just spent *insert huge number here* million dollars on upgrading to the M16A4, the Airforce dosent need a high tech infantry weapon, the Coast guard are happy with their Styers and the Army is too cheap to pay for the R&D to create a new infantry weapon"

I think it looks good plus it solves some of the M16's issues.
