Steam ctd's

okay, preloaded Red Orchestra. But i just installed my HL : GOTY to play a bit of counter strike and whenever i load HL or CS I get to the screen just before you get options, where you still see the taskbar at the bottom of the screen and then i CTD.

what's all that about?

Truely odd, well, I have no idea, just one of Steams many problems I guess, I seem to have less problems with steam than everyone else, maybe I'm just easier to please...

The only time Steam gave me problem is when I install a new game on Steam then my anti virus programma doesn't give it access to the internet because it doesn't regonzine it and then my screen freezes black. It's a little different what you described but maybe you have sometimes usefull from it.

I had that yesterday. Started up steam for the first time in a month or so to play some Hidden (a very good HL2 mod). The only difference was that it hung at that point, instead of a ctd, but that's probably just because it was hl2 not hl1. It worked fine the second time I tried after killing the hl2 and steam processes.

Dunno if it's steam or just CS/HL. When I try to play any of the HL2 series of games, my computer reboots just before it gets to the main menu which is very frustrating. I have to play it on my less than impressive other computer. And as for CS 1.6, well it just decides to CTD for silly reasons really, I've kinda adapted to it now...

it was firewall messages for me, a couple of resets and picking up firewall messages eventualy allowed me in.

i then installed the Zombie mod and it was too bright in my room, i ended up dying accidently, then i started playing after pulling my blinds down and got banned for nothing. one of the only two servers available with players!!!!! what a crap community that is

edit : damn netlimiter stopped working, had capped a html download and it didn't work, guess they thought my 500 ping was offensive

You know what is weird, a couple of months ago I was able to play Half Life 2: Lost Coast through Steam but I never bought this game. Now I see it's possible to download again.

Comes free with any Source engine game I believe. I can play it and I only have CS:S.

Oke thanks that explains it, I also have CS:S, and with that game I also got Half Life 2 Deathmatch and Day of Defeat Source. I am not familiar with the Half Life series but can I now also download mods for Half Life 2?

Edit: I was searching on the internet and I see it's not the full Half Life 2 game so I guess will have to buy it in the future to play the mods I heard there are good mods for that game.

lol I haven't had any major issues with CS: S the major issue to check is firewalls and other than that install steam if it still doesn't work then your computer is screwed up.
